So I just got laid off and besides the financial worries (which I won't bore you all with) I'm seriously worried about staying on track with my weight loss.

I think I'll stay on track with my exercising (I'll have MORE time for this) but it is being at home all day next to the fridge that I am worried about, not to mention the fact that i tend to eat when stressed.

The structure of the work-day really helps me plan out my daily eats and I tend to flounder on the weekends - now I'm on a permanent weekend.

I hope I find a job fast

I can't be of much help other than commiserate - I'm not working right now either and my schedule has been thrown out of whack and I am totally suffering for it. Not getting workouts in when I should, eating more because it's available and I'm not running around so much. It's tough when we feel like we've got it figured out and then life throws a wrench into things! At least now that we KNOW it's a problem, we can be on the look out for harmful behavior, y'know?

Good luck with the job hunt, I'll definitely have my fingers crossed for you.

I went through 2 years of unemployment. The first year I failed miserably..gaining about 30 lbs but after I while I created a schedule for myself. I would make sure I got up and exercised by a certian time, then shower and dress. Then I scheduled time to job hunt and do any other extras. It seemed to help me to have it all layed out for me. Eating right is the hardest part when you are broke! Good luck finding employment soon!
  • When I was unemployed was when I gained most of my weight :( Try to stay as active as possible and go for walks where you can not just be a couch potato :P

Good luck with the job hunt x
  • I'm unemployed. I go walking to keep me outta the house and burn off calories at the same time (:

You can probably enroll in some college courses if you need to keep busy. UE in my state pays for that. At least that way you will have a commute and a schedule.

I got laid off recently as well and I'm using this as a reason to workout MORE often. I have nothing but time on my hands so I have NO EXCUSE!!! I'm also using this time to look up healthy recipes and cook whereas I NEVER cooked while I was working. I've lost more weight now than I ever have. Working out actually helps with the stress. I've been kick boxing like a maniac because I definitely have stuff to be mad about!!!! I'm also more motivated because I NEED something to be happy about!! Everything else sucks but at least I'm losing weight, right? lol Use this time wisely because it actually could be really beneficial in regards to your weight loss journey. It's all how you think about it.

That is so hard. I was laid off after 9/11 and being a single mom, I stressed how i was going to provide, and make meals as inexpensive as possible, which meant higher cal/fat foods. Thought I would get in shape since I had time, but I had a hard time motivating myself. I did more Bible study, and that always helps.

Just get up and move, and like the above post mentioned that walking helps get them out of the house and away from the fridge, is a great idea.

Much success to your weight loss and job hunt!

I know what you mean! Being at home all day, often sedentary, helped me put on 15 (more) pounds in the first few months after I stopped working full time. I have to leave the house for workouts and walks, and I try to structure my meals and especially my snacks. Good luck!

I lost my job a month ago. I thought it would be good for my weight loss but it's actually hard finding motivation to work out when I know I have an infinite amount of time to do it later. I'm all about schedule and sticking to it, but I don't have a schedule anymore so it's not so easy. I sleep in most days and always have a weird debate with myself about fitting in working out with meal times (I don't want to work out when I'm full, but don't want to eat lunch really late, etc.). Luckily the eating part hasn't been hard at all. I sleep in so I don't need a full breakfast, I've had a really easy time staying under.

The hard part for me was that I visited family with my free time and also went camping, but that's done and over with and I'm back where I was in no time.

Luckily I just had a great interview where they all but told me I had a job. They said as long as my references go well (who puts down bad references anyway?) I'll be employed once again.

Good Luck! It's all what you make of it!

i've been unemployed (save for 1 month) since december of last year. i lost 30 pounds during that time mainly because i stopped eating out. i was just offered a position a few days ago and i start in a week, so i can definitely understand the frustration.

you definitely want to stay busy. look for volunteer work (check out volunteermatch.org). join a meetup group with other unemployed people. and dont forget that now that you're made of time, you have no excuse to not exercise

good luck and i hope you find something soon.

Bummer! I'd recommend doing your job search somewhere other than home. Take your laptop to a library or a coffee shop or something.
