Thank you so much, everyone! I am glad that others experience what I have by gaining weight the day after a long workout. I did it again yesterday....went for a three hour bike ride and gained .6 even though I was eating almost all my calories back.
I really do tend ot eat all of my calories, including those I burn with exercise.
I am going to try and make sure I drink lots of water the day of a long workout and hopefully that will help the water retention.

I appreciate the input and advice!!!

i don't know, i have been told by so many on here that it's true. so what's with this starvation myth then? why is everyone so concerned about it then? i was told that i wasn't eating enough in the beginning too and that is why i wasn't losing buy tons of people..... i figured since so many are saying the same and many of them were trainers that it must be true.. whether it's just water weight it's holding on to or not, it still holds onto something which is what changes the scale...

NOT LOSING and GAINING are two different things... too few calories- I cant figure out how the body can make fat out of nothing- NOT shedding the weight because your body has grabbed a hold of it because you're "starving" I guess I can kinda buy that- but only because so many ppl swear if they eat too little they dont lose... but lets keep it straight- they dont gain either- that just doesnt make sense. Also going up and down on the scale is not a fat loss- its a little water and/or other things making the scale go up and down. True losses show in the tape measure way more than the scale.

I think the "starvation mode" thing gets very twisted in people's minds if they hear certain things, then spread misinformation.

You can't gain weight from not eating. It's not possible.

However, you can gain weight much more easily if you start eating (and especially if bingeing) after putting metabolism into starvation mode for a long period of time.

Does this usually happen to people dieting?

    No.

This happens when people with addictions and ED go into treatment and have to eat regularly for the first time. They put on weight at a tremendous rate. Their metabolisms take a long time to 'readjust' to normal healthy eating. And no anorexic is eating, say, 1100 calories regularly. Try 500 or less calories regularly.

    OR

People diet for a long time, lose weight... then begin eating poorly again. Not "I'm only eating veggies!" people. The, "Well I lost weight, so now I can eat this Burger King... or this ice cream... or this brownie..."

Then they put back on weight. But FASTER. And MORE.

Otherwise, people may plateau, be gaining muscle mass, etc., by going on 1200ish calories a day. People's bodies may not be as desirable in their aesthetic, either, because at too low calories (for their body), any food may be stored as fat before muscle.

But only after a LONG time.
