Physical Education in schools

This will probably end up just being a rant... So I apologize.

I'm a fairly young guy. 24 years old. It wasnt THAT long ago that I was in the public school system.

Like most states, PE was a required course. But, honestly, it was POINTLESS.

Yes, running around a field for an hour is great exercise and should be encouraged.

BUT, what SHOULD be the focus is HEALTH not the actual physical exercise.
It is SOOOO important for kids to know the WHY.

I work with a lot of teens in my work. They all seem so clueless.

They have no idea how the body really works.

And, it doesnt seem to be excluded to the kids these days... As I go through the posts here on MFP.

My nutrition section in HS was literally, "this is a carb. This is dairy. This is protein. Now, lets watch a movie. Anyone wanna watch Rudy?" Mind you, this has a lot to do with the teacher. BUT STILL!...

We need to start teaching our kids early on.

How about teaching Sports Medicine in public schools rather than PE? lol
