So, I have decided to have a cheat day today. I have told myself that I can have whatever I want today in moderation.

What do you guys have on your cheat days? Do you go all out and have a stuff-your-face-until-you-puke kind of day? or do you just have one cheat meal?

I am not doing so good on the cheating so far........the most damage I have done is Cheezit's so far:laugh:  I just find that I don't really want the junk today.

  • I typically do a cheat meal. If I crave pizza during the week, I wait until Satruday and have some. This gives me somethiing to look forward to while staying focused during the week and I still get what I want so I don't feel deprived. Plus, just cheating with one meal is usually enough to satisfy me and I don't lose all of the work I've done during the week. Good luck!

I'm seeking a new way of life that doesn't include eating food that's not healthy for my body and may induce cravings that will torment me for days.

Instead I seek healthy food that I enjoy and make it part of my daily eating. The closest I come to a cheat day is when I end up trapped in a restaurant with no healthy choices and eat something that I wouldn't normally have.

It has worked for me for over 40 weeks and over 60 pounds discarded.

I've played with different cheating strategies. From entire days, to meals. But I think I'm just going to spread out my cheating, that way one day doesn't look like a total loss.

Today is my Mt Dew day. I had 1, and it was great, but the rest of the day will be back to water. I'm thinking about adding a Taquito Tuesday also, I get cravings for those pretty bad.

My last cheat day I had my first cheeseburger in like 6 weeks, and it really upset my stomach. I took that as a good sign.

Carrabbas bread and dipping oil... put some fresh parmesean in there with the herbs and it's heaven! It's funny though, when I get psyched up for a "cheat" day, I still find myself eating healthy. The stuff that I consider "cheat" foods dont take much to satisfy mr anymore.

By the way...Cheezit's are amazing!!!!!!!

I am ashamed to admit that there is a box of parmesean and garlic, a box of white cheddar, a box of pepper jack, and individual packages for lunch in the kitchen pantry. Damn the 2 for 1 sales! They really aren't THAT bad. I have them once a week.

On my cheat day, I try to eat whatever I've been craving for the week. This week it's going to be a local pizza place I love. I probably will go way over calories. Last week, I really wanted a cupcake. I didn't count calories for the cupcake, but with the rest of my day I had some calories left over, so I didn't sweat the cupcake. For me, having one meal or one food item a week helps me stay on track. When I want to go out and eat too much during the rest of the week, I tell myself that on Saturday I can have whatever I want. Usually by the time Saturday rolls around, I've narrowed it down to something specific that I want.

I think it's just being able to find that balance to make it a long-term lifestyle instead of a temporary restriction.
  • Ali, I think you hit it right on.

I've done many things in the past for "cheat" days, but I find that it leads to crazy cravings - give me a day (or meal) to eat chocolate and I'm a gonner for a week. I'm weak like that.

This time, I've been finding that by not planning my cheat days, I can just do things when the mood strikes - like last week when a new restaurant opened up in our neighbourhood and I was able to go and order whatever I wanted (chicken curry and basmati rice and some pistachio dessert thing that was halfway between cheesecake and regular cake - to DIE for). Although, I'm waiting for the day that this method backfires and I have cheats more often than I should. I don't measure on a weekly basis or anything, because I have found that in the past I would set a cheat day and really be looking forward to my pizza, but then something would come up before my cheat day where I'd have to eat something not so healthy (like a work lunch or something)...and then I'd still be craving pizza...and then I'd have pizza and hop right back on that craving rollercoaster.

So, all that is meant to illustrate that I've been trying to do what Ali mentioned...just be balanced.
  • I guess I will make today my cheat day since I woke up late and did not have time to make breakfast, So I ate burger King. I have been really good all week so I do not think one meal is going to kill me.
  • I've done cheat days or meals - most of the time I come out even since I am exercising those days. This week has been bad though - on tuesday I had forgotten the healthy lunch I packed, and when I got back to the office after working all day outside and not really eating, I had 3 slices of pizza that had been ordered. I was also on call that night, so my BF treated me to chinese take out so I would not have to worry about cooking - very thoughtful, but not on the plan. Yesterday I went out to dinner with my BF's family - normally we just have wings and I can keep it to 6, but yesterday I ended up splitting a bacon chicken ranch wrap with the BF. Today, my willpower was shot and there were dunkin's munchkins in the office and then pizza was ordered again.

Other than the chinese, everything's been within my calories, although certainly not healthy alternative and not the best for my body. My office is really my downfall, so I only do cheat days for special events since I cheat other thimes due to my poor self control.

Depending on what you had and how many calories you get for the day, that might even work into your food for the day. There are some meals even at fast food places that aren't so high in calories that they completely kill all of your calories. That's especially true if you can get in a work out.
  • I looked up the calorie intake for the breakfast and it came out to be 1100 for breakfast i still had lunch, dinner and three snacks to fit in well today I could only do two snacks but my snacks consist of oranges and apples and typical a smoothie at night with mixed berries and a banana
