Get a load of this guy. Outstanding idea. Good luck

the idea can be applied to an individual person...u just have to say NO, No to the entire event, or NO to the food they try to cram down your throat. The person who uses this technique would have to be deeply committed to getting results, events with food and people are hard to pass up.

Take the hard line, No excuses, just do it.

Mandi pandi said "Gee, I'd love to reply with somewhat of an intellectual retort but frankly your statement was too long to read all the way through. Maybe if I gain some time and energy, I will come back later to do so. "

Mandi, I'm sorry reading what was approx 16 sentances was too much for you to handle....now go play with your coloring book.

I'm sorry you can't spell SENTENCES

Sorry my perosonal spelling assistant stepped out but thank you for taking her place and making the corrections on this highly formal form of communication. You made me laugh, thanks.

If you control the food, and the social situation, you'll be surprised to see what people are willing to try.

I have had a number of people over for low fat, balanced meals at my house, no complaints and everyone was surprised to realize it was healthy.

I have had people confess that they were really happy about it because they are also trying to eat healthy... once I said that was what I was doing, it made it easier for them to talk about it.

I eat lunch and exercise on my lunch breaks with my work friends. It can be done.

Who said you 'have' to eat 3 meals a day at specific times? I don't eat 3 meals, I eat all day long. Whenever I want.

If you don't want to eat 3 meals, don't. You do what works for you. I will do what works for me.

Like using punctuation. And spell check.

    you're***

Yes! Ditto! Although it doesn't irritate me as much as the zillions of people on this site who say they need to "loose" weight.

I really agree that society revolves around food WAY too much. A lot of people need to find a way to enjoy activities without food. Eating shouldn't be the only way to have fun and be social. For example, why do most people feel the need for popcorn at the movies? Isn't the movie enough entertainment by itself? Why does there have to be food at every gathering of friends? Isn't the company of friends good enough by itself? It's a little annoying sometimes, but you just have to stand up for yourself and say no when it's necessary.

Pretty sure it wasn't YOUR idea. There are a few people here who have ideas of their own.

Eating with family and friends is fun. Exercising with family and friends is fun. Both things can fit into a healthy, happy life. Not sure what the controversy is here?

First of all, the obesity epidemic of America is not solely due to eating 3 square meals with family at the dinner table.

    Lets think about this...
Americans have a "drive thru" diet, check-stand diet, junk food diet... all of which RARELY take place at the dinner table.

And another thing, other countries (most of the world even) celebrate events over food. its human nature.

Feel free to make the necessary changes to your lifestyle, but we are all going to have success doing what works best for us individually. I eat all 3 meals with my children and dinner with my husband every day. Together, my husband and I have lost 175 pounds. So....... go figure.

I'm not sure why it has to be one or the other. My boyfriend and I always sit down and eat our dinners together but we eat very healthy and don't overeat.

In addition people workout in different ways. I workout at lunch doing circuit training or playing basketball while he works out right after work and he does kettlebells. Sure we could socialize more if we worked out together, but then we would be eating dinner at like 8PM :)

Yes both can fit, you are correct. Except one is way outta control (the eating events), the other is almost not being done at all in america (exercising with family and friends).

Not trying to attract people on MFP. Just talking about the issue of a healthier lifestyle through the distruction of social contructs that cause people to be over weight. No excuses!

Your likely correct, but ours is outta control.
  • Actually, there was study done that showed that children who ate meals with their family are less likely to be obese.

I don't think I know any families that eat all their meals together, but I think it's great to sit down, enjoy your food and catch up

Maybe im just a highly social individual but i'm focusing more on the events, and the eating out that could very easily occur for me atleast 3 times a week minimum if i allowed it to occur.

Yes you are correct, parents need to take responisibility for their children and raise them to be moral and ethical individuals in all that they do.
