If you were watching/doing workout videos on YouTube, what would you look for in strength training ones?

Proper form and modifications, for people who don't have free weights or resistance bands. Also, a good description of what muscles you are using and isolating.0

Real lifting for a change and not some bull**** P90/Insanity "strength training" crap-ola'.0 -
how do you modify without using weights or resistance bands? lol
and let's say the heaviest weights go up to 25 lbs....0 -

If this video is for men or women then the video ceases to be strength training and becomes cardio with weights.0 -

That would depend on whether one can get to failure with that weight.0 -

If you're doing true strength training then weight should always be based on a % not a set weight value. Things like P90 are cardio with weights, not the same thing.0 -

There's no point if you're only going up to 25lbs. Just do one of those millions of random 30day-insanity-shredded-my-butt-bible-in-6minute-abs. There's already a plethora of good strength training videos on youtube. Just look up anything by Mark Rippetoe for example.0 -

True. What I meant to say is that for someone starting out, a set of 25 pounders just might be sufficient to fit into the heavy weights, low reps paradigm.0 -
Resistance band workouts and modifications. This really helps during traveling and gym close days!0

This is the honest truth and I posted something similar a few weeks back based on what I've seen and I've met yet a few more people at my gym within the last few weeks.
Somehow the Insanity and P90X craze caught on with people at my gym. All of these people (men and women) were fairly strong for their size and could at least bench/squat their body-weight in free weights. They each (about 11 or 12 folks at this point) took time off to do one of the a fore mentioned videos. They came back looking like skeletons. Sure they had a little weight to lose, nothing major and one lady I thought had a smokin bod to begin with, but they really came back to the gym looking bad, not healthy at all. The kicker was, one lady still had a little muffin-top going on so she didn't even lose that but she lost a good portion of her muscle mass. Also, now they're all friggin' weak! To me that's just a shame. Anyway, that's just my experience with that stuff right now and because of what I've seen I truly hate those videos. They oversell it on their infomercials and get people that don't know better to buy them.0 -

At least she has the guts to put her workout video on line and cares to know what people want to see. Not everybody here is 30 something mail. There are a lot of people here who are just starting their weight loss journey. And for those people 25lb is strength training. This website is for support and encouragement for those people. No need to be judgmental.0 -

Did you see my comment about weight being a % and not a set weight? Because weight is relative to the individual it must be a %. That is if you want your program to be effective. And the OP is on my friend's list, so of course I'm being supportive. I'm just so sick of the crap that gets made for the general public that is over-hyped and over-marketed that the only thing is good for is making the inventor and publisher a bunch of $$$$$$.0 -

It could be diet related, if there was too much calorie restriction, or maybe not hitting the right macros. I can see that happening with Insanity because that is pretty much cardio, but my impression is that P90X is in the 'Lift to failure' of the hypertrophy variety (8-12 reps).0 -
I look for Mark Rippetoe, Matt Wenning....0

I mostly agree with that statement. The reason for such large loss of muscle mass is likely diet. It's my understanding that P90 and Insanity come with a diet plan to follow though. If that's true and they were all following the plan, then P90 and Insanity's diet plans are also bad.
The other piece of the puzzle is that they stopped what real weight lifting so their muscles stopped getting engaged at that level and were only used at more of a cardio level.0
