Reached goal but still need to tone- What's next?

So I have reached my weight loss goal. My core area still is a bit flabby and I'd like to tone it even more. I've had 2 kids via c-section- I don't know if that makes a difference or not. I run several times a week and do Jillian Michaels DVDs at least 4-5 times a week. What else can I do and do I need to lose more weight in order to reach this goal? Thanks!

  • I would like to know the same thing......I still have some pounds to lose first, but want to tone everything up. Especially my belly!!

Congrats btw on reaching your weight loss goal :)
  • The problem is generally waiting until you're at goal to start heavy liftibg. More weight loss will do nothing for your stomach if there's no muscle there. I suggest new rules of lifting for women and eating at maintenance NOT weight loss.

And that too was a question I had......hubby tried to tell me that starting weights now would put muscle on top of fat, but muscle helps to burn fat right? So I could do some weights along with cardio and still get the thinner, toner look and not look like a body builder.....

Your muscle layer is under your fat layer so you won't see it while you still have a high percentage of body fat. It is also hard to build muscle while having a calorie deficit for weight loss. it is important to do some weights while you are still working towards your goal weight so that you don't lose the muscle mass you do have. And any muscle you do build now will help you to burn more calories. So I think (and from my reading I am not alone in this) that everyone who is trying to lose weight should be doing weights as well as cardio. Once you get to goal weight eat at maintenance and keep going with the weight training to "tone up". Good luck!
