I have been thinking for a long time that I may have IBS-C. I need to eat more fiber, but also, looking at my food diary, I need alot more protein too.

Most proteins (besides chicken breast) are not IBS safe.

So does anyone have any advice as to what else I can eat?

I really appreciate any help. Thank you :)

I do have IBS-C and I had a hard time with proteins, as well, till I started Shakeology. It has made a HUGE difference for me and I've been better than I was since I was diagnosed as a teen. Also, I've noticed that foods too high in fiber and the processed foods pumped full of fiber make me WORSE, not better and bloat me so bad I look pregnant. So I stay away from all that processed Fiber One crap and unfortunately, limit my bean intake b/c I get bloated and bad pains and it hurts. But now I can eat chicken, beef, tuna and not have a problem! Also, I do much better with brown rice over white rice and whole wheat pastas over white. Hope that helps!

I have Crohn's, during times of illness I use a liquid protein drink (ensure is great when you are unable to truly eat) but on a daily basis I look for lean meats, fish and protein drinks (I like muscle milk). I avoid nuts and fatty meats.

Best thing is to talk with your doctor.

    Good luck:flowerforyou:

I have gluten intolerance and Crohn's. Cutting out gluten really helped. Gluten is the protein in wheat and many other grains. Gluten can give you problems if you have IBS or IBD. Also minimize the portions. Sometimes beans and nuts bother me - but if I measure out before I eat them - I notice that helps.

Curious to see where this goes. Both my sisters have been diagnosed IBS. I haven't. But for ME, it's the starches that cause the most problems. I've been to GI docs who always start with "add more fiber including whole grains". That always made it worse.

Never noticed anything with proteins, in a normal diet.
I *have* noticed a "cycle".... which goes from ovulation to period....

I have had IBS and a gluten sensitievity i have never had problems with proteins ,i eat all kinds of protein and i eat a lot of eggs . I never know whats going to set me off it's a hit and miss thing one time i can get something and the next i end up very sick. I have tracked my foods thinking that might help but it didn't make much difference .I started drink Vegan Shakeology about a year ago and that has seemed to help a lot with my GUT issues.I haven't had an attack since January and hopeful i don't have any again . If i can help you in any way feel free to add me as a freind

I don't find that protein specifically causes any problems for me unless the protein is in place of fiber or particularly fatty like beef, lamb, or the like. Some foods containing proteins like diary products cause problems along with constipation. Starting at the beginning of the year up until around June, I was eating mostly brown rice and nothing else because I was essentially home bound from intense intestinal pain and was taking narcotic pain killers around the clock just to be able to sleep for a couple of hours every couple of days.
  • I have IBS C. I get my protein primarily from chicken, beef and fish (particularly tuna and mackerel). I have started experimenting with protein bars, although most contain gluten and I'm doing a gluten free trial at the moment. I find high fibre foods are worst for me, not protein. You can inject fibre into your diet via golden linseed sprinkled in things (I put it in my porridge/cereal), as well as veggies. Cheese has protein in, if you can have that? Nuts are another protein source, combined with healthy fats - especially almonds.
