GPS Tracking my runs

Hi All,

I have been using MapMyRun app to GPS track my runs on my Android phone. It works decently, but sometimes the tracking is all over the place. So much that my distance can be off by 1/2 mile or more.

I have thought about trying a different app, like RunKeeper or others. However I am curious if this is just due an issue with my phones GPS and not the app.

Does anyone else use this app and seen this issue?

I use runkeeper and had similar problems at the beginning, until I realized I needed to turn my wifi off. For whatever reason, the wifi would make it look like I jumped all over the place, but everything is much more accurate with it off. I absolutely love runkeeper though...plus, it's free!

The app won't make a difference - the issue will be with the gps signal that your phone is capable of picking up.

I'd suggest you either get a bespoke GPS device or be comfortable with the idea that your tracking will be a little off. (Factor this into your training too. I learned this the hard way! Ensure you *run* that extra half mile or so that your GPS tracking isn't allowing for.)

When I ran this morning, my garmin told me 11 miles. The Endomondo app on my phone gave me 12. The garmin was, I'm 99.99% sure, the accurate one. (I've had the same issue with mapmyrun and runkeeper - and I have a good phone, with a generally good GPS signal.)
