Poll: Should There Be A Ban on Large Sodas?

State governments are stepping up their efforts to tackle the nation’s extremely high obesity rate. Just the idea that more than one-third of all Americans are now considered obese according to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention, is enough to make you put that trenta-sized beverage from Starbucks down.

In fact, that’s exactly what New York City is trying to make you do with a proposed ban on the sale of large sodas and sugary drinks. Under this ban, delis, fast-food restaurants, movie theatres, street carts and sports arenas would be prohibited from selling sweetened drinks larger than 16 fluid ounces. Supporters of the ban are hoping that it comes into effect by March of 2013.

But don’t worry, your diet sodas and other low-calorie drinks won’t be affected by this ban. So you can sip away at that "DC" (aka Diet Coke) to your heart's desire. While we’re curious to see if this ban makes a difference, we want to know what you think.

Do you agree with this proposed ban? Or do you think that we should have the option to buy large drinks if we want to?
