insomnia ruining my workouts

I really need some help. I have no trouble getting to sleep infact i drop off pretty quickly which is good but i cant stay asleep. im a pretty light sleeper anyway but the last month or so i've been waking in the night to pee sometimes twice and then find it really hard to get back to sleep. It doesnt matter what i do or how early i stop drinking!! Trouble is i'm starting to feel the tiredness and some odd days like today i struggle with my workouts although most days im pretty okay. Today i feel shattered and i'll feel this way all day i need sleep  any ideas anyone?

Have you tried the Sleepio Sleep Lab website? You can get at least a 2 or 3 week help version that is free but if you want the entire course then it costs about £60 for life. It is written by the specialst Sleep Lab people at Glasgow University, so all the stuff on the site is backed up by good research.

I did the free one and found it helped me, as I have woken in the night every night of my life and it has been a lot worse since I had the menopause (night sweats in my case). Some days I have gone into work feeling like a zombie but eventually my body has caught up and I have slept for 10 hours on the trot.

Have you had a physical lately. you should get a blood test. peeing a lot and tired alot could be symptomes of diabetes.
  • I'ge been struggling with insomnia for years. I really feel you're pain. I also wake up after 3 or 4 hrs of sleep and find it hard to get Back to sleep. In the early days of it I would have to get up n walk around the house 10 min or so or sometimes have a glass of wine to get me thru the last 4 hrs. Now that I'm older (55) its even worse for me so I'm pretty confident its all hormonal! Have you tried *Benedryl to help you sleep? That helps alot too. Also watch your caffeine and the foods you are eating at night. Part of my problem also has been bc of a sedentary lifestyle at work and at home. :( I'm trying to do better though! :) The BEST of luck to you!!!!!
  • Sorry to drag this topic back up, but I too have a feeling sleep problems are ruining my day life and my goals. Has anyone else had experience with the Sleepio site?

I found that getting up in the night to go to the bathroom ruined my sleep. I put small night lights in the hall and bathroom so I didn't have to turn on the big light--it helps. Another help is to do kegels--exercises to strenghten your bladder muscles. I started them and in a month instead of getting up 3 times, I was down to once and then sometimes slept through the night. I sleep so much better now.
