how do you ladies look after your hair? because im working out so much my hair needs washing alot, also swimming is taking its toll. my hair just loks a mess, and when i do wash and style it its only a matter of hours before its sweaty and horrible again!!!

Im always washing my hair, think if you find the shampoo and conditoner thats right for you, it should be fine, I use VO5 xxx0

Sometimes I just rinse it rather than doing a full wash and conditioner. Can you ask your stylist for advice ?0

A good conditioner and a flat iron helps with my hair, my hair looks gross after I workout or if it's humid out.0

I know what you mean.... I went to a fairly expensive hairdresser here in the UK (got vouchers as a gift, could never afford it normally :laugh: ) and I said that I was washing my hair after every workout. He told me that I didn't need to, that I could do it every other day!!
I see girls in the change rooms at the gym who finish working out, are a sweaty mess and just come in and use the hair dryers to dry all the sweat in there hair, they don't actually wash it! I still haven't been able to do this, I have really short hair and I don't think that I could do it....it would just feel icky!!0 -
When you go swimming, wet your hair in the shower before you get in the pool and apply a conditioner. Don't wah it out. Alternatively wear a swim cap. :-)
If you need to wash your hair everyday only shampoo every other day, use just a conditioner instead if it absolutely needs washing. If you can go without for one day, use a dry shampoo to revive and refresh your hair.
ETA: make sure your shampoo is suitable for your hair type. If you swim a lot your conditioner should be a moisturising one for dry hair. It'll bring back the moisture that the chlorine has taken out! :-)0 -
It might be what youre using in it. I started using organic shampoo/conditioner and it took about a week for my hair to adjust.. but after it did, it looks/feels fantastic!
If you're swimming a lot, you might want to wear a swim cap over your hair because the chlorine will eat it up. Is your hair long? For the hot and sweaty days just braid it up or wear it in a ponytail instead of fighting with it down.... Summers aren't really hair-friendly, that's for sure.0 -
I only wash my hair every other day as it's not good for it to wash it every single day. If you need to shower inbetween then, like I do, I put on a shower cap. I use shampoo, conditioner and argon oil on the ends to keep them from splitting as much. It seems to work well for me but you can see a hair stylist (preferably one you're familiar with and knows her stuff) in your area and she can help you.0

I don't always wash my hair. I wash it every other day... and if it's starting to look dry, I'll just rinse and use conditioner on it.0

I don't like to wash it every day. I wash it over other day... I like to let its natural oils come out. Luckily I don't have very oily hair...
If you swim a lot then I would suggest you get a clarifying shampoo and conditioner, use products that are good for dry hair because the chlorine in pools has a tendency to dry out the hair.
You can also try some deep-conditioning products...the best is a deep conditioning treatment at the salon as the products in the store are not as good. Either that or you can make your own at home using some natural ingredients (google is your best friend).
Anyways, you can always wear a bathing cap?? lol0 -
Make you invest in a good cut and something that doesn't need to be washed every day. I work out everyday and suffer from the same sweaty mess. If you use dry shampoo on the days you don't wash it will help keep the oil at bay and allow you to restyle with a round brush. Your hair looks long, so these things might work. If you color your hair, you shouldn't wash it every day any way.0

I've just started using a vitamin for hair called HEAD HI (amino acid version), it was recommended by my hairdresser and the girl at the health store said people had reported great feed back0

well it'd be good to try waiting for longer intervals before washing your hair, even if it's greasy feeling from sweat. it's a different story if you're swimming every day...do you deep condition? there's "aussie 3 minute miracle" which i've just started using, it's 5 dollars and makes your hair pree' soft. you could also go to a sally's beauty supply store and ask them for a deep conditioner recommendation, or just for advice about your problem in general. there's also argan/moroccan oil, which has great results with dry/damaged hair. it comes in a bottle that lasts forever for 20 dollars, and you just rub it through your wet hair after showering.0

If you are worried about smell you can use dry shampoo. You just spray on your roots.0

I was just thinking about this the other day. My ends are so bad, but it is partially my fault from getting it colored so many times. I want to get a lot of it cut, but I'm waiting to use that as one of my rewards.....Maybe for reaching a 30 pound loss. I may get it trimmed before then, but I wont get an actual style my goal. I wish it felt healthier because I really dont want to cut it off. I have always wanted really long hair, but it is so dry even 4 inches up Oh well lesson learned with hair color....0

You really should not wash you hairs everyday. Wet your hairs with tap water then put a good latex cap. The chlorine will not get on your hairs. Also keep it short and low maintenance.0

It's the swimming rather than washing your hair regularly which is the problem. I have bleached hair and wash it everyday and it's in really good condition but then I do have it cut every 6-8 weeks without fail and use shampoo and conditioner for damaged hair. I used to work for a hair care company, and did hairdressing for 10 years and can honestly tell you washing your hair every day does not damage it, it's colouring, hair drying, straightening etc which damages it.
As for swimming, like someone else has said wet your hair with clean water before you get in the pool and apply a spray in conditioner. That will stop your hair absorbing so much chlorinated water. The when you get out of the pool shampoo and condition your hair as soon as you can to wash away the chemicals from the water. And try to use a deep conditioner once a week to strengthen it.0 -

My hair goes to my *kitten*. I only wash it once a week (I hate washing it!). I use a moisturizing shampoo & conditioner when I do wash it. The only products I use in my hair are frizz-preventers/sprays.
Braids, headbands & snoods are your friends! If you're hair feels particularly dirty, you can use dry shampoo/talc until the next washing.
Regular trims make a huge difference, but I'm guilty of ignoring that piece of advice :-/

Before going in the pool you can wet your hair and put some conditioner in it. That will help your hair to absorb less of the chlorinated water. Oh, oops, someone already said that.0

You'll want to stop dying it. Sometimes those dyes can be really harsh on hair. Are you perming it? That can really dry it out big time! I'd just rinse it (sweat will rinse out) and put a deep conditioner on it if it's that dry. Your hair needs moisture. I'd also look into an organic shampoo that doesn't have sulfates. There are lots of great companies out there now. Sulfates and many of the chemicals that are typical over the counter stuff use the same stuff that's in detergents to wash hair. Imagine what it does to your scalp! Anyway, I've found a good organic shampoo/conditioner is better.0

Depends on your hair type. I have fine hair that's past my shoulders and I typically wash it every day.
Getting the right products and not over conditioning is super important in this scenario.0 -

:noway: I HAVE to wash my hair everyday, if I don't it's SO greasy! I also HAVE to colour my hair otherwise I've got a grey stripe down the centre!! :laugh: I use shampoo & conditioner for coloured hair. tbh, I'd feel really horrible and dirty if I didn't wash my hair everyday. As far as working out, I do my workout in the morning and then shower and wash my hair.0

Switch to the good shampoos from the salon ? Have not used grocery store shampoos in many years. My favorite is Redken. They making something for swimmer's hair too. Ask at the salon.0

Go to your beauty supply shop and get a shampoo specifically for swimmers. Use this once a week to help with chlorine if you're swimming a lot. Follow it with a good conditioner. I use nexxus humectress and my hair is soft and manageable.
Most of the time I wash my hair only every other day. So, I was my hair after a regular gym workout, but not in the mornings, not in the evenings, and not, typically, after the pool. I'll use a leave-in conditioner after the pool instead. Then wash my hair on my every-other gym workout days when I get hot and sweaty. This has kept my hair much more manageable, even soft and shiny.

I used to be a swimmer and managed to keep my really long (at the time) hair in good shape. Some other people have already said to rinse and condition before swimming, yes! Also, wear a swim cap. Then, when you get out of the pool, use a chlorine removal shampoo (available at a sports store) on all of your hair, all the way to the ends. Then, use a moisturizing conditioner on your entire head, roots too. If you're prone to an oily scalp, the last step is to put a little shampoo on your hands and rub them together (it'll help distribute the shampoo better) and shampoo and rinse *just* the roots. Like other comments, I would recommend not washing your hair on non-swimming days and pick up a good dry shampoo.0

Is it healthy?
You could try clarifying it and/or using a chelating shampoo. You mentioned that you swim, so you'll need a chelating shampoo to get rid of the chlorine.
