When your friend puts too many calories burned....

I saw someone put WAY too many calories burned for her weight - there's no way possible. And if this person is eating back those calories, well, probably wonder why the scale isn't moving.

Would you call someone out on it or should I keep my mouth shut?

Depends on how cloe you are to said friend. I wouldn't say anything if it's someone you don't know well, unless they ask.

BTDT. Someone was recording something like 800 calories for 30 minute walks...

Depends. If they ask for help or say they don't understand why they aren't losing, then yes. I might say something like you might want to get an HRM so you can correctly estimate your calories burned. If they don't ask, then no unless I was really good friends with the person.

How do you know it's not possible? Are you some sort of weight loss expert in calories burned for each individual person?

Unless they ask, keep your mouth shut.

Yep! I've seen people say they burn 1000 or 1500 calories doing things like walking or cleaning.

I have wondered this about my taekwondo burns.. MFP has it at 800-something for 60 minutes. One day I'll get an HRM and check it myself but so far that number doesn't seem to be hurting my loss.

they are only cheating themselves......I would probably just leave it unless the topic comes up like why wont the scale move then maybe

you could always casually comment on it. just even making a note that it's a LOT of calories burned for the activity could get them to start thinking about it. but unless they open the subject, don't be too quick to jump in (unless, of course, you are good friends and they will know you just want to help out)

A good friend will tell it like it is. So do just that, make a nice suggestion. If you lose the friend, find some new ones.

I wouldn't say anything, they probably feel guilty eating the extra calories so they add the added exercise calories to minimize the guilt of overeating.

I see this all the time, but unless it is a good friend or they ask i keep my mouth shut. Hopefully they have someone close to them that will tell them , but i dont feel it is my place......... I would want someone to tell me if they thought I was doing something wrong though as long as they did it in a kind nice way
  • I had a female friend that logged 1750 calories for intimate acts. LOL ya right, you do porn?

I called my friend out. Not in a mean way. Then I explained to her the mph/x minute mile. Come to find out, she didn't really understand what all of that meant. She doesn't use a HRM.

yet I don't think she changed it. :/ (smh)

You could always ask it in the form of a question, Like wow that is an awesome burn I did the same exercise and I only had 230 cal. burn how did you do that? I would rather have someone explain it to me than have me keep exercising and eating those calories back like a fool...............Most of us learn as we go. If they get mad then hey they weren't a friend to start no loss on your part.

I'd say give her the benefit of doubt. Tell her like a concerned friend. If she's unaware that the burn count is too high she could be eating back too many cals.
  • It could be the way it comes up on the home page too, it will add up all the exercise you do in a day and then say you burned 800 calories doing cardio including walking 30 minutes blah blah blah..so it might not be that it's that ONE thing burning 800 calories, but a combo of everything through out the day. Maybe just mention it, you could say something like "wow, what a great job, how did you do that? I'd like to try it" or something like that.

anyone can do as they please... we r to support mainly.. so if they think is right is up to them...

However, if you think there is a mistake just say... hmm those calories seem quite high are you sure is right?.. if they think it is.. well ok.. move on..

People has to learn to do what is right.. mistakes sometimes are needed to learn...

I regularly burn between 800 and 1000 calories each workout. The ticker only shows the last type of cardio recorded, not ALL the activities. So even though in 60 minutes I may work at a moderately high intensity for 15 minutes each on the elliptical, arc trainer (ski machine), treadmill, and recumbent bike, the "ticker" says I burned 800+ calories in 60 minutes on the bike. It certainly can appear impossible to those who don't have the full story.

Instead of calling them out, I would just ask! This person might be busting their *kitten* for weeks and has no idea they might be hurting their progress. Then they will get frustrated, throw up their arms and quit when YOU could have helped Twisty girl. YOU could have helped. TOTALLY kidding.

I would just ask though, seriously. :)
