Hi everybody,
finding it difficult to calorie count things that are not in a packet and the portion sizes. For eg, when I'm out to eat. I'm hoping this won't sabotage my weightloss. Any suggestions on how I can make it easier?

Don't know where you are from, but here in BC restaurants are supposed to post nutritional facts. You could always try asking the chef at the restaurant you are at. McDs posts theirs on the wall, Wendy's, too, I think.
I have a bigger problem with grocery items with no info: ie: breakfast sausage that is packaged in the store, deli meats from the deli not in packages, etc.0 -
From Ireland and calorie counts on menu's hasn't been iintroduced yet.0

you have to take you best guess... eating out can be a bit more difficult, but you can ask for specifics, like "no butter" etc. All you can do is try to account for everything you think you're eating.0

Use a similar restaurant's entry or nutritional information. When in doubt, I pick the worst offender.
Ex: If I go out to lunch and get a slice of pizza from a local joint, I log it as a papa johns slice if it is the same style.0 -
Good ideas, thanks guys!0

The US chain restaurants were supposed to start posting calorie counts on their menus as of 2009. Most of the major chains have it on their websites, though. Many places are also offering lower-calorie options, too.0 -

almost all the us chain restaurants have posted their calorie counts on their menus. if not, they already have nutritional facts sheet up in the restaurant usually by the registers. and a few restaurants too have nutritional value, ofc its not exact but they give you the range.0 -
I ate out twice this week for work functions and had the same trouble since neither seems to publish their nutrition facts, maybe because they aren't chains. I literally counted the number of chips I ate at the Mexican restaurant. I eyeballed the portion sizes on my plate at both restaurants and guesstimated 1 cup of refried beans, 1 cup of rice, etc. And then I looked at all the entries I could find online from other places and took a rough average and went with that. I also ate smaller dinners and worked out a little bit longer on those days, just to be on the safe side.0
