My NSV - "Is that a good number, Mom?"

When I committed myself to living healthier this past January, it wasn't to get skinny (which I did before my wedding 13 years ago) or to look great in a dress (which I did before my brother-in-law's enagagement party) - it was because I finally came to the realization that I am only 9 years younger than my dad was when he had his first massive heart attack and quintuple bypass at age 49. (He had his second one at 62 and is thankfully still doing well). And if I didn't do something about my lack of exercise, I was going to head down that same path and unlike him, I might not survive at first heart attack, let alone a second one.
So for 7 months I have been eating healthy, indulging in cravings after taking the time to analyze how I felt before, during and after giving in to the cravings, walking, jogging, weight lifting with NROLFW and (my new love) taking kickboxing classes. The scale has only gone down 5 pounds but I have lost a whole dress size and I don't require 7 retakes of a picture before offering approval to "ok, keep that one."
Today while we were sitting at breakfast my husband pulled out his phone to partake in one of his favorite pastimes - check his resting heart rate. Because he is very fit, it is usally in the 50's or 60's and today it was 62. My resting heart rate, on the other hand, 7 months ago was 90. Yes, 90. I know. Baaaaaddd. But today, out of some morbid curiosity I asked for his phone to check mine but wouldn't let him look at it because I didn't want to be harrassed like he usually does when it comes to my health. I of course had technological issues and ended up having to ask for his help.
SO, with the hubby and my children watching, I checked my resting heart rate ....................70. Yes, I went from 90 to 70 in 7 months of healthy choices and regular exercise and I was so proud to answer my son's question, "Is that a good number, Mom?" "Yes, baby, it's a very good number and I am going to make it even better."
So for those of you whose scales aren't moving like mine, take note that there are some AMAZING things happening to your internal organs that will NEVER show up on a scale. So be encouraged and keep going.

Nice one! I read this to my husband, (not a MFP member, his resting heart rate is 42, and he will turn 72 years old in October - to say he is very fit is an understatement, which of course has lead to YEARS of misery between the two of us, because of my weight!)
This made me feel very happy for you, and for me. You are right, things are happening inside of us that are awesomely awesome, I will check my resting heart rate tomorrow. Thanks for spurring me on. LeeAnn0
