Hi Everyone,
I started working out on the elliptical last month and have worked up to 1- 1.5 hours/day on it 4-5 x week. So far it's really helped my weightloss and I'm committed to it.
However, today I joined a gym and the trainer instructed me to limit my cardio to 25 minutes on the days I lift. Something about burning muscle instead of fat if I train for longer than 90 minutes. I'm afraid that limiting the cardio will slow my weightloss. Can I eat something and do cardio later the same day? Or is there really something to this 90 minute limit?

I take a protean bar to the gym, eat it between the strength and cardio. Then when I get home I have more protean in the form of a recovery drink.0

It doesnt really matter as long as you have eaten within a few hours before your workout. Nutrients will be released into your blood for a few hours after eating.0

90 minutes of cardio does seem a little extreme, especially 5x a week. If you can still do 90 minutes of cardio after your weight training I'm guessing your weight training isn't intense enough. Maybe up the weights and cut the cardio to 30-45 mins or less? Cardio isn't required for fat loss at all so I wouldn't worry too much about that. If you cut back on cardio it would be smart to cut back on those extra calories you would normally eat back of course.0
