Managing Pressure to Eat/Drink in Public?

Just wondering what some of your tactics may be for managing pressure to eat and drink in social situations

How do you turn down another drink when the person you're out with wants to stay/wants another?

When tasty, bad-for-you foods get put down on the table, what do you think to yourself to avoid eating them?

What are tactics that you have for keeping yourself on track during special events (i.e. weddings with open bar and food)?

Thanks!

If I know I am going out, I will try and work out extra sometime before or after the social event. That way I am OK to have an extra glass of wine. If its an open bar wedding, I try to stick to low cal drink (ex. liquor and water [or carbonated no cal or diet drinks). I wouldn't try to avoid bad foods at the table, I just have a taste or small portion of what was offered. At weddings eat half or less of the multiple courses of whatever is being served.

This happens to me every weekend - my boyfriend LOVES to go out and sit at bars just to people watch and hang out. I used to just order another and suck up the calories, but I recently decided I wouldn't do this to myself anymore. Instead I will stay, but order an iced tea or diet and it seems to do the trick. He's happy, I'm happy. When I do have a couple drinks, I try to drink vodka + soda water + 2 lemon/lime wedges or if I'm drinking beer, corona light.

I don't really drink much as it is... So I fake feeling tipsy and say that if I drink anymore, then I won't be able to drive.. so I need to stop.

In my eyes, no food is bad... and if I want that food, I'm going to eat it. I will how ever, only eat a portion size and not the whole darn plate.

As far as special events go, I check over everything before I eat and then decide what I really want and what I can live without... and follow the same rule as above. Portion size and no more.

I also try to exercise a bit if I know I'm going out or something so I have a bit of wiggle room.
