Hello!
I'm a non-runner, and like the subject says, I am training for the 2010 Walt Disney Marathon in January. (a marathon is 26.2 miles!!!!! for those of you who may be unfamiliar with the distance of a marathon--I know I was when I first started.)
Anyway, while I am training for this marathon I decided to also take the extra steps to try to not only increase my endurance, but also lose some weight.
So....I've been training with a marathon group called Team in Training (through the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society) ...I also have a strength training group I work out with two times a week, and I attend "Buffalo's Biggest Loser" meetings at my gym each Saturday to weigh in. I'm following a 40-40-20 diet (1500 calorie diet: Five 300 calorie meals consisting of 40% carbs, 40% protein, 20% fat)
surprisingly I'm totally satisfied throughout the day....the only challenges I have faced over the course of the last six weeks is muscle soreness from my weekly long runs (this past sunday i ran 10 miles without stopping!!!!) and also being sick with a severe upper respiratory infection (which, when paired with asthma, makes it extremely difficult to find a breathing pattern when you are running!)
MFP has helped me be honest with what I'm eating, and I find it extremely helpful to put my meals in before I eat them so that I can adjust my calories to meet the targeted percentages for each meal.
I like motivation...and I'm a good motivator....so get in contact!!
any other first time marathoners out there????
~karen

Way to go! If you go to Hulu.com you can watch a NOVA show called Marathon Challenge. I found this show very inspirational and would be a great motivator for you. I have never ran a marathon before, but I am hoping to start training after the new year to run one next September.
Good Luck

Wow, that is impressive!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :drinker: :drinker: :drinker: Good for you!! :drinker: What made you go from not running at all to jump into a marathon so soon?? I have been running on and off almost all my life and I have never done a marathon. Now at the age of 45, almost 46 next month, I ran my first half marathon this past Saturday. I have also been participating in 5K, 10K, 10 milers, etc. I got my husband into it as well. We are doing a 10K this Sat and another half marathon, San Antonio Rock n Roll, in about 2 wks. Good luck in your marathon! YOU GO GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :flowerforyou:0

good luck- I have no tips- I am not a runner hell I am not even a jogger and I am training + my regular workouts for a Annual Bridge run Dec 5th - Doesn't sound like much its just a 5k but what makes it hard is that its a 1.5 miles of hill
all I am doing is additional jogging (which I hate) what did I get myself into0 -
I did a couch to Half-marathon last winter and ran my half in February. I decided to step up to the full marathon for the 26.2 with Donna Breast Cancer marathon. I am training using the Galloway method, the group I am in is 3 minutes running 1 minute walking. We did 12 miles this past Saturday. My legs are sore all the time, but I am really enjoying the training. I did some triathlons this summer and have kept up the training on my bike and swimming 2 times a week. For me the Marathon training is a way to improve my running. I am not very fast, but I am determined to improve. October '08 I ran a 39:05 minute 5k(my first race) I ran a 5k on Sunday in 28:35 It is great seeing improvement. I have met so many supportive people. Keep running!!!0
