jogging and knees

Jogging really hurts my knees, for like days afterwards. Does that mean it's not for me? I like how it makes me feel otherwise.
I am young (31) and only about 15lbs overweight. Could those 15 be putting lots of stress on my knees? Or do I just have weak knees?
Will it get better if I stick at it?
I just found the "knees" post but actually water aerobics exacerbated the pain, too, so I don't know if it's the same pain others were experiencing.

you should do some strength training to strengthen the muscles around the knees. stuff like squats and such.

My knees were my weak link that prevented me from running for a lot of years. 1 year ago exactly, I decided to back up, take things SLOW and build in TEENSY increments. I started by making sure I was doing a balanced lower-body and core strengthening routine and then I began following the Couch to 5k program, to encourage me to take the running in very short intervals then bulding up.
2 weeks ago I ran my first half marathon in a time of 2:09:44 and I'm planning on running the full next year. Do go see your doctor or a physiotherapist but weak knees don't have to mean a destiny without running0 -

I tore my ACL in 08 and had to have surgery. Had 2 in 3 months. Basic excercises helps, also I found the best is the Elliptical Trainer and Bicycling. Tread Mill hurts it feels like I'm pounding my knee into the concrete. Another thing walmart has these knee wrap, bandage things for women. That really helps.0 -
Pay close attention to the surface you run on, best is a level grassy surface, followed by dirt trails. The worst is concrete, avoid that at all times. Take it really slow, your lungs and heart need to be in shape but so do your bones, cartilage, and tendons, so take it really easy.0

I echo the talk to your doctor sentiments.
When I started this I was afraif of blowing a knee out being more than 100 lbs over weight. So I walked for a few months, then I walked faster for a few more months. Then after 9 months of walking I thought it was time to start running.
But with only being 15 lbs over I think something else is going on, which why I think a Dr is the best route.0
