Feeling a little down...

Options
I have been doing really good...I really like the idea of running, so I have been increasing my speed on the treadmil little by little and finally I am able to jog at 5 mph for 20 min! I have been trying to get my body used to physical activity because we are going on our first family vacation in 3 weeks to NC and my husband and I really want to go hiking! I have never been and I was really excited!
Well...Yesterday I was walking out to my car early in the morning to go to work, and I stepped wrong on the edge of the driveway and I broke my ankle. I just got back from the orthopedic specialist and I sprained the crap out of it, but on the x-rays it showed my Distibular Fibula is broken. Like a small chunk of bone is complely broken off, just floating around in there...I am heartbroken, not to mention I FINALLY started to drop weight and now my doctor doesn't even want me on the ground doing sit ups b/c of the position my foot would be in.

I know there are worse things that could happen, and I should be thankful it was not worse then that...but I can't get myself out of this pity party I'm throwing myself. My husband has offered to re schedual the vacation that we have been saving for for nearly 2 years until I am better, but my kids are so excited and the plans have already been made...Anyway...

Sorry for the venting, but I really needed it, now if I could just get out of the slump! :ohwell:

I'm sorry you hurt yourself and can't exercise but that doesn't mean you have to stop losing weight. I've lost basically all of my weight by just watching what I eat so it is possible.

i hope you feel better soon!

My boyfriend broke his tibia and fibula last year and had to have surgery and then was in a cast for 6 weeks. He actually lost weight (granted he's a boy and they tend to drop weight more easily :grumble: ) but we think that having to work that much harder just to get around and go to the bathroom, the kitchen, etc. caused his body to have to work harder and therefore he lost weight.

I know how bummed you must be, but try to keep your head up and do the best that you can. We all have hurdles that we have to overcome- some larger, and some more obvious than others, but you can do this. Take care of yourself, and realize that even if you do put a few pounds back on they'll probably come right back off once you're able to resume your regular activities again. :flowerforyou:

Are you in a cast or a boot? Once you're feeling better, maybe you could do some upper body work like bicep curls, shoulder work, etc. I know how you feel. I sprained my ankle a little over two weeks ago and I panicked thinking I wasn't going to be able to do anything. The good people on this website suggested upper body exercises which I started when I felt a little better. Also, don't worry too much about gaining weight. If you continue to watch what you eat and log in everything, you should be ok. Good luck with your recovery, and I hope it's a speedy one.
