I have no problem getting on my scale but haven't had the nerve to see actual measurements which I know I need to do so I can see changes. Why is this so hard? I wonder if its because my mom has always told me that I'm fat and just live with it from a very young age, she is constantly reminding me that my little sister is in way better shape and how tiny her and her girls are? Either way gotta get the measurements in there today. That is my personal goal.

I should mention that all my life I have been a yo-yo dieter but have never been as big as I am now. I'm 5 foot and 192 lbs. There my big secret is out. I know own it. Please anyone with advice about how to be objective of the numbers would be appreciated.

Numbers are numbers, whether they are on the scale or not. It is merely a measuring system. They don't define who you are, they don't really define anymore than how much space you take up.

When you look in the mirror, you see yourself. You do this everyday getting ready in the morning, right? Let's say you measure yourself. You have the numbers. You look at yourself in the mirror again. You probably feel worse about yourself, but the reality is that you haven't changed in any way shape or form from the first time you looked in the mirror before your measurements.

Weight loss and life style change is more than changing your body, it is changing your thinking on various levels. Your "inches" are there whether you actually measure them yourself or not. What is so scary about a number? I suppose most people find them confirming -- that is "Oh my gosh, I actually am this big! This bad! How did this happen!"-- but that is confirmed every day by looking at yourself, but you are so used to that, that is doesn't seem as catastrophic since we do it so frequently (whereas we don't measure so frequently).

I would measure yourself once and put it away. Don't even measure again for a month or even two months. Instead of viewing it as a confirmation of your already thoughts (because those numbers don't really change anything but how you think about yourself), view it as just another tool to help you gauge your change over some time for when our eyes tell us otherwise.

You have nothing to fear in the scale or measurements when you realize they are tools for making changes over time, and not on a day to day, or even week to week basis. If you are committed to a healthier life style, and you truly (without any HUGE cheating) commit to it, change will come. And that change can be calculated with tools such as measurements as you progress.

I hope this helped a bit! I am here if you need any encouragement!
