question using food scale to measure nut butters

hi guys,

so is it ok to weight firstt say the piece of bread and then tare the scale then add the spread and weigh again. is that accurate?or is there a better way?

    If I put the piece of bread on the scale and then turn the scale on, the scale is at 0. Either way is fine though.
