Protein Shake for snack?

I'm thinking about switching my afternoon snack that I eat at about 3:30 pm to a protein shake. Any thoughts on this? And if it's something you recommend, can you recommend a protein that isn't too expensive and will not BULK me up? I am trying to lose weight and slim down. Thank you for all your help!

protein won'y bulk you up anyway, it just helps rebuild muscles when you tear them down lifting heavy weights. So if you aren't lifting a lot you aren't going to get big muscle gain from drinking protein. Protein can actually help you lose weight. I bought Ellite XL from bodybuilding.com the last time I got protein. It's cheaper than most, low cals and low fat. Just look for a protein that 1 scoop is a serving, has low fat and low cals and you should be fine. Gaspari nutrition is another good one that tastes really good too. Some are designed specifically for "weight gain" and have a lot higher fat and cal content, stay away from those.

Women don't bulk. If you weight train you'll hit your muscle "ceiling" fairly quickly and you'll continue to get stronger without getting much larger. -- for example, look at women's gymnastics, those girls are RIPPED and yet they don't look "bulky" at all, they look powerful and strong and toned. So definitely don't worry about that.

I do protein shakes regularly (would do them every day IF I could find a way to keep them fresh while at work). The protein powder is not really that expensive, I mean I buy a container and it lasts me a good 6 months usually.
