Golf Calories

Is the golf calorie counter accurate? I played 18 with a cart yesterday in 4 hours and its telling me i burned 1350 calories. Exciting to know golf is so strenuous, now I guess I don't feel bad about the 4 miller lites!

    That seems like a very high estimate, especially without walking it. With the cart, I would equate golf to being in a suana (in the summer)...where the calories/weight lost are almost all from sweating

    Thanks, I tend to agree - the heart rate doesn't tend to get up there when you're driving the cart...

    Eh, seems about right. You will burn 300-400 calories in 4 hours just doing nothing. So you burn an additional 250ish calories per hour actually golfing? Not that tough to believe.

    Yea he would burn that over the time period but I think the calories he was talking about was the amount burned from golfing, not including his bmr

    Right on, I guess it would depend on the course and each person's ability. Some courses you have to stay on the cart path, some are more hilly than others, and some people will have to walk a lot more than others. So as an average that might be a little high, tough to say.

    I guess it depends on how bad you are. If you aren't so great and have to hit the ball several times before it's in the hole, or you are like me and take several "practice swings," then I suppose you are probably getting a bit more of a workout than someone who can score somewhere around par because you have to swing the club more. That's my excuse for my golf game anyway :P

    It's WAY high. The little bit of cardio exercise you do get from golfing isn't steady state cardio. Do you burn more golfing than you do sitting on the couch? Sure, but not 1000 cals more.
