What do you guys eat while eating out?

Let's face it, a lot of us have a hard time living our normal social lives out WITHOUT eating out. I don't want to hear any of the "you need to stop eat out" speeches. I am proud of any of you that do that and I applaud you, but some of us just aren't going to do it.

I go to school full time, work a full time job during the week, and I have a weekend job. So, we eat out with our friends from time to time.

Have any of you guys made up a list of acceptable meals from different restaurants? I'd be interested to know how you all tackle this typical issue!

What ever I want. I figure eating out once every couple of weeks is ok if I eat healthy other days, which I do. Of course, when I eat out I don't order deep fried whatever with cheesy cream sauce and fries with a double choclate brownie for desert. I eat something fairly sensible, and don't worry if it's a little calorie heavy. Or I eat half, save half for later. Works well for me.
Order stuff like seafood, chicken, fish w/o tons of pasta/rice.

I eat out at least once a week with my fiance, if not a couple of times a week. I still get what I want, and if it's a big portion I take half home for leftovers for another meal. I eat what I want though, and I make sure to exercise extra hard those days to make up for it. And I always get water with my dinners.

Look non the internet or call in to the restaurant for a menu. I decide from there what's best for me, usually just eat what I want. Just try work it off the day after with a good workout! Which also stops me drinking so much, the thought of working out with a hangover is scary. Lol!

I tend to try and get lean meats with vegetables anywhere I go. A nice 6oz steak with two sides of broccoli is one of my favorite things from Chili's.

NEVER get anything friend and/or breaded (Can literally double the calories).

Replace tortilla chips with celery usually...

I got LOTS of tips and tricks. lol

If you're looking for quick, Taco Bell has 2 tacos for about 340 calories. You can get a side of black beans also. I'm also loving Wendy's Berry Salad. Very yummy and low cal and it fills me up. I found I only need one of the dressing packets for the full salad. Panera posts their calories now, so that makes it even easier.

I usually order whatever I want, and then just eat less. The portions are usually BIG, so no way if I could finish them even if I wanted. I don't really have any food groups that I need to stay away from, so I guess I have it quite easy like that. Oh, and I always ask them not to add dressing on my salad/veggies, not just because they're high on calories, but I don't really like most dressings. That helps a lot.

And there's no shame in asking the people working there what they think the healthier option is, and if they have anything they'd recommend :)

I eat out quite a bit...

Salads with low calorie dressing and grilled meats, grilled lean meats and green veggies, sandwiches with grilled lean meats and no mayo. Lots of steak (sirloin or filets and I ask the kitchen not to add extra butter).

The first step is to pre-plan or pre-log. Ive learned this recently and its really saved me on days that I know Im going to have a big dinner. Then it depends on where we go. If its a chain place, I will look up the menu before hand (Dennys, Logans, Chilis, etc) and log or at least know what I want before I get there. However, if its a hole in the wall place like the local seafood joint or a Mexican resturant, I will order whatever Im in the mood for, count chips, avoid fatty side dishes and try to leave at least some on my plate. I very rarely eat the whole thing unless I get a kids serving or share with someone.

Im never going to give up eating out completely. It doesnt fit my life or family. But I can make better choices and still lose weight.
