Eating Unhealthy Food VS Eating Nothing

Over the next several days I am attending an event where the food options are pretty much already selected.

90% of the food is Greased, Salted, Breaded and Deep Fried. I have no choice in this.

The problem is: If I choose to eat only few the healthy side options, I'm going to throw my body into starvation mode.
On the other hand I don't want to put that junk in my body when I've been working so hard to avoid it.

What would you do? Eat the junk or let your stomach growl

Thanks from Oregon

You aren't going to go into starvation mode even if you completely fast for a few days. Neither will you do any significant damage to your health or weight loss if you indulge in junk food for a few days.

I travel for work quite a bit. Conference food, hotel food, airport food....

I bring my own stuff and "fuel" with that, and eat what I can of what's offered.

I bring trail mix, fruit if I can, protein bars, zipfizz, (vitamin water mix), dried fruit, dried soy beans, natural beef jerky, whatever I can. (I've even brought canned tuna a few times) I eat it on breaks or go for walks during meals or breaks and eat my own food.

Then eat the veggies, or whatever I can from what's offered. Best of luck!

If I know I am going to be stuck somewhere where there is not going to be much for me to eat, I carry fruit and nuts in my purse to snack on. There is almost always a point where you can get food from elsewhere. And even if they have fried unhealthy food, there is frequently some kind of veggie or salad for a side dish. I am vegan, so I encounter this kind of thing frequently!

It will not throw you in starvation mode.

    My suggestion though? SO WHAT?!

Go ahead and eat some, log your intake and just account for it. It really doesn't have to be utter starvation or gorging yourself on a bathtub full of fried chicken. There is, believe it or not, a middle ground.

    this

I'd look for whatever has the best quality protein and avoid anything that's near enough 100% fat and carbs (like fries). Then I'd look for something that has some kind of vegetable in it. For example chicken nuggets with a coleslaw on the side (rather than fries) because this is protein + something that probably still has a few vitamins in it (albeit smothered in mayonnaise and sugar)

If there are healthier options than chicken nuggets and fast food style coleslaw, then have those and try to ensure that you're getting protein with it, even if it's breaded/deep fried. Your metabolism isn't going to slow due to a few days of not eating enough, but without adequate protein or calories you will feel hungry and miserable and that is likely to make you tempted to binge on unhealthy stuff, rather than eating it in a controlled way to ensure you get enough protein and what you can of the other food groups.

Also expect weight gain because of the sodium and don't freak out about it. When you're back to clean eating again the sodium/water weight will come off quickly enough.

Peel the batter off the chicken, etc.

But seriously, Ive been to conferences where food was provided, I still took my own. You arent going to go into starvation mode, just make the best choices you can, and if you dont want to eat the food, dont. :)

    Thank you all.

I guess I will be doing a bit of non-perishable shopping tonight and perhaps eating a few not-so-savory meals along the way too.

I'll play it safe. I just have a goal for myself and I hate roadblocks.
