I'm fairly new to MFP, i'm finding that my worst time is during the workday. My job can get boring and if I sit here all I think about is food. I start snacking when i'm not even hungry.
Also, I find that by looking up healthy recipes or looking at the message boards that makes me think of food too
Like I said i'm faily new and trying to gain willpower.
Any suggestions??

One thing I do is pre-measure all of my snacks into individual serving-sized baggies. That way when I get into mindless snacking mode I know exactly how much I'm eating and know to stop after one bag.0

That is a really good idea, I have a lot laying around that are not pre-measured and that seems to be when I get into crazy snack mode!0 -
I kinda feel like I could've written this, lol
I actually try looking up workouts and different fitness blogs when things get a little dull at my job instead of thinking about food, but i have access to a computer at work so maybe not what you were looking for.
For food, similar to what's already been said, I try to spend at least some time over the weekend portioning out snacks for the workday and sometimes pre-logging my day in MFP helps me see where I'd be at the end of the day based on what I had planned to eat and usually keeps me in line because I don't want to go and change anything
I have also tried to purposely look for a new snack or new meal to try for the week at least once per week so I'm not eating the same things constantly. Less boredom means less Shannon mindlessly snacking.0 -
we're practically the same person..haha
I think its mostly because we're bored. Like another poster said, I pre-measure all of my snacks into individual serving-sized baggies on sunday evening. Make sure you bring extras too so you dont end up at the vending machine. Eat a high protien lunch that will help you stay fuller and fend off the feeling of hunger. I keep mini graham crackers, rice cakes, and trail mix at my desk at ALL times, but I pre package my fruit for snacks, like I said earlier, for each day and bring them in.0 -
I'm glad i'm not alone!! That is a good idea to look up exercises instead of always foods. I am going to def. try to start pre-portioning my snacks!0

Log it before you eat it. If you are tempted by a snack, put the info into your food diary and see what it does to your numbers for the day. That is usually all I need to stay focused is to see how that poor snack choice is going to screw up my macros.
Other tips to avoid emotional/ boredom eating:
*Chew sugarless gum
*Drink a large glass of water or iced tea
*Distract yourself with a quick game (angry birds, sudoku, tetris or whatever you can set down quickly)
*Watch clips of documentaries like "Supersize Me" or "Fast Food Nation"
*Do 10 squats (or pushups or some planks or calf raises) you can do the squats in the restroom real quick and no one would even notice. Exercise will help you feel less hungry.0 -
