Garmin Foot Pod

Has anyone used the Garmin Foot Pod? I usually take a trip to Florida with my family every year and I'm trying to figure out what would be easier to have for my next trip. I'm thinking of the Fitbit because I know my HRM won't work-there's no way I'm going to wear the strap all day while I'm walking around and sweating, I know it won't be comfy lol

I have one and use it to track my runs & walks. It's fairly accurate once it's calibrated correctly.

If you are using it to count steps and calories all day while walking around the fitbit will work better for that. The garmin foot pod would work also but you'll have to wear the garmin watch all the time and make sure it doesn't run out of charge..

    Me too.

But it won't give you a calorie burn. You'll need the HRM strap for that. It just gives your distance, cadence and pace.

I have a fitbit and I wear it everyday. It tracks all my steps and stairs and puts the numbers automatically into my logs here. The only thing it can't do is be immersed, so when I'm swimming or kayaking I have to input those numbers myself. I use the Nike+ foot thingy when I run, but that just tracks on the Nike website.

Very true. I use it in combination w/ the Garmin FR70 HRM.

The garmin watch will give a calorie burn based on speed and distance traveled. If the GPS is enabled it will calculate from the GPS. If the GPS is off, or if it loses signal, it will calculate from the footpod.

i have a foot pod for my Polar HRM.

Its useful. but often i forget to put it on.. haha.
  • I was looking into the pod. I want to use my HRM solely on counting my calories but what to give myself a mini challenge to see how many steps I make in a day, week, month. They have apps...but I'm not sure of their accuracy.
  • I have the Nike +, love it.

Mine is the FR60 (no GPS just HRM and footpod). I didn't know it would calculate calorie burn from the footpod - but I've never used it without the chest strap because I like to keep an eye on where my HR is while I'm running.
