Is this right?

At the gym tonight, I did some leg presses, lifting 195lbs...I did about 3 sets of 10. I felt like I could lift more (i.e. I didn't feel like I had to stop at 10, I felt like my muscle could have done more) but my knees had a twinge of pain, so I listened and stopped.

I haven't lifted any weights in years and have been obese/overweight for quite some time. Does 195 pounds seem like a lot of weight to be lifting? When I did the leg curls, I could only do 70 pounds....what does this mean?

Sounds about right to me, from my personal experience. I just started with the strength training about 2 weeks ago, and I leg press about 180, and leg curls are only about 60 pounds. I have no idea what this means, if it's "normal" or anything else. But it is similar to what I do.

It makes sense, especially if you've been overweight for a long time. Your legs do a lot of work and they'd naturally get pretty strong. I remember the first time I went to a gym, when I was well over 300 lbs, I could almost max out the leg press but that was pretty much the only thing I wasn't horrible at.

Oh, good, phew! I was a little tripped out by how heavy the weight was...but that makes sense, carmrunner, and being able to relate to you and flyingpurplem helped ease my troubled mind. Thanks!

You should pretty much always be able to leg press at least your bodyweight. After all, your legs "press" about that weight every time you stand up.
