Why does MFP set sugar RDA so low? I don't eat many sweets but I always go over. ie I had an orange for bfast and 17 of my 24g for the day are gone.

It uses some US Govt advisory figure on added sugars. Turn it off, set it to a higher number, or eat less sugar - problem solved.

I watch it, but when I look at my day's worth, I subtract any sugars from natural foods (low fat dairy, fruits and vegetables).

The American Heart Association recommends LESS than what MFP gives you: http://www.rodale.com/recommended-sugar-intake

Well that's annoying. They should differentiate among different types of sugar then. And it's not a *problem* just a question. I've never paid serious attention to it anyway.
  • I am so new to this that I have the same problem and I am diabetic and don't eat a lot of sweets but I don't know how to turn it off and change it so if someone would let me know at 1502kathy I would appreciate. Eventually I will get the hang of this thing.:flowerforyou:

Go to Settings at the upper right of the screen and you can choose the macros you want to track along with the calories. Uncheck sugar and it won't show your sugar count anymore.
