I used slow cooking oats and blitzed them slightly.

Just made these, i did swap out a few things, like i used canned black beans (rinsed off and very well drained)
instead of homemade black beans, and i used teaspoon or two of cumin instead of the hot peppers that you used.

I also used Progresso bread crumbs,
    instead of crackers.
I WISH i had used oats instead of bread crumbs,
as i found the overall texture a bit mushy.

    DELICIOUS taste, yum!
    but, kinda mushy.

I did freeze them prior to cooking them. Pan-fried the pattie on high heat....then, lowered heat and cooked it some more, to make sure the pattie got cooked all the way through.

Maybe, if i had made THINNER PATTIES, instead of a typical hamburger thickness,
and maybe, if i had used oats instead of bread crumbs,(?)
then maybe i would not have pattie that was kinda mushy.......

    but LOVED the taste.

ANY TIPS TO GET THESE TO BE OF A FIRMER TEXTURE???

btw, i had to add an entire cup of bread crumbs,:noway: to get the 'dough' to form into patties,
so i went to some other website, added in all my ingredients,
and divided by number of patties i made,
and it said my veggie burger would = 146 calories, since i used so many bread crumbs,
but i got lots of iron, and B vitamins, though.

i am still using up my frozen patties here, and although i made them TOO thick, (mushy-ish inside)
i found, i can take a frozen one, cook it on high heat in a nonstick pan, with a lid..

as it cooked, i sprayed a large spoon with cooking spray, and flattened that burger down, down, down, so it was thinner.
    and thinner.
    then
i pretty much almost burned it, on purpose, to increase chances it'd be not mushy.

and DID get a more firm burger then.:drinker: Slathered it with mustard. Tasted good...still needs 'something' to add some chewiness to it, though, imo....

Gonna try these. Have you ever used rice instead of crackers? I may try that. Thanks

A friend made a similar recipe and used rice instead of bread crumbs - FANTASTIC!!!!
