I HAVE A MAJOR PROBLEM

SUGAR.

I'm constantly under in calories, carbs, fat.. nearly everything. But my sugar at minimum DOUBLES my MFP recommended amount. Whether I eat very well that day or not so well, my sugar is high.

Anyone else struggle with sugar, or have any suggestions of how I could lower my intake?

Thanks in advance!

I'm often over in my sugar. I don't worry about it if the sugars are coming from fruits and other whole foods but I do try to limit the processed sugars. You can add sugars to the nutrients your tracking so you can clearly see which foods your logging have higher sugar content and therefore adjust accordingly.
  • Check your lables. A lot of healthy stuff is full of sugar to compensate for the lack of flavor, you could say. But eatign the good sugar, like fruits is ok.

Stick to thinkgs like Almonds, they have 100 calorie pringles. Find stuff that is bulky with less sugar. Ya know?

This^^ exactly right. No point me writing it again cos this lady has it exactly right. Good luck!

Milk and fruit, even some veggies have sugar. Bread products, sauces, anything in a box or can or bag has added sugar.

I try to stay under 60g Sugar. Don't worry too much about milk and fruit.
  • Few questions. Who's doing the grocery shopping for you? I suspect you are to be honest. Next, Are you reading the Nutritional Labels as well and the ingredients labels (if they are on the packages)? If not, please start. Anything that has anything ending in "ose" (e.g fruitcose), enriched or words that may be or are hard to pronounce, stear clear of. From all the books that I have read, and plans that I have followed, they all pretty much say the same thing about grocery shopping, "Go around, following the wall to get your food and avoid the inner isles." The one thing about this is limiting fresh fruits (yes they are the best for you), to 1 to 2 servings due to the natural sugars that they contain.

If your sugar is coming from whole foods, and you don't have a medical condition that requires you to watch your sugar, then don't worry about it.

limit processed sugar, and stick to one to two pieces of fruit per day - berries usually i choose because i love them haha. I try to to only have two servings a day and usually at the start of the day as they are a complex carb.

Unless you have diabetes (or another medical problem that requires limiting sugar), it probably doesn't matter. You already account for the sugars in your carbohydrate count, so it doesn't provide a lot of useful information unless there's some reason you need to be watching your sugar intake.

stop eating "fat free" stuff; they just replace it with sugar to compensate. you're better off eating just regular foods.

yeah, I actually have noticed that most fat free items have way more carbs and sugar than the non nonfat.

I don't have a medical need to regulate my sugar, but I do know that simple sugars turn into glucose almost immediately, which isn't good.

I have a problem with sugar too. The culprit is my morning bowl of cereal. Going to look into a different kind once I eat what I have. I can't live without my cereal!

I'll have to start going through my food diary's with a find comb and figuring out what of my sugar total is "natural sugar" (i.e. fruits and vegetabes) and what is processed.

    Thanks for all the input!

Mornings are major for me as well! Whether it's oatmeal, yogurt, cereal, fruit, or SIlk... my mornings are always sugar loaded.

The limit seems so small that I don't even pay attention to it because one or two servings of fruit alone takes me over it.
