Shin splits, muscle tenseness, suggestions how to prevent

I have looked through the forums & none of them really answered my question.
I started the c25k just over a week ago. Im 300+ lbs so its a work in progress. I stretch before i start & my walking shoes are pretty new. I have been 3 times without having shin splits (only able to jog the minute once), But Monday night the pain like to kille me (was able to jog 3 times @ 60minute intervals), i kept going. It felt kinda numb feeling, like my ankles werent there & it made me very wobbily feeling. No swelling or anything. It was just weird. Does this just sound like a severe case of shin splints or something else??
any stretching that i can change or add?? it felt so much better & releaving when i did the bleachers. i skip every other step, so its almost as im doing a lunge going up. walk normally down. slowly bc i cant see past my stomache, but i can honestly say im trying to move & im feeling tons more entergy.
I walked 5 laps around the track & a full set of bleachers.
