I joined MFP last week & had great success. I lost 5 lbs! I usually workout a lot (5 X a week at least) but last week I was sick so only worked out twice. I started working out this week on my usual schedule & also started my period yesterday. The scale says I have gained back almost 3 lbs?? I burned 700 calories yesterday & barely ate any of them back. I have noticed in the past that working out tends to make me heavier on the scale. I am very frustrated. Or could this be because I started my period?? How much do you ladies usually gain during that time of the month & when does it go away? Now I feel totally unmotivated:(

It's water. As long as you're eating well and exercising you ARE healthier, and that's what matters. A couple pounds of water from TOM shouldn't bother you. Weigh again in a week, and I bet you'll be pleasantly surprised.

I always gain during that TOM. I don't pay too much attention to it.

Also.......tracking for less than two weeks really isn't a great place to start judging your weight loss.

I don't weigh myself the week before my period and I don't weigh myself the week of my period. I just don't do it. There never has been and there never will be any good news on the scale those two weeks. So yes, half of the month I don't weigh myself at all. *shrug* It just keeps me from going crazy over hormonal and water gains.

weight always goes up and down whether it is that time of the month or not. If you are eating better and working out...I really wouldnt pay that much attention to the scale from day to day...

I agree with you in regard to weight heavier when you work out. I rember my first go around when I lost weight...all I did was eat very light.. I never worked out..Everytime I got on the scale it moved down. When I work out, it just doesnt happen that way. When we use our bodies we build muscle which weighs more than fat so your weight loss will be slower when you workout and it is very common to gain a bit. I know that working out and building a lean body will benenfit me in the long run so that is why I say at it.

Stay motivated....be concered about how you look and how you feel vs what the scale says. If the number on the scale bothers you that much...put it away and only get it out once or twice a month...

I don't know how much you are weighing or when. I weigh once a week, every Sunday, first thing in the morning AFTER using the bathroom before consuming anything. I have found on the week I get my period that the scale does go up....but goes back the next week.
