I have just finished watching the hairy dieters. I don't know if anyone else saw it. They are both big blokes yet they are on a 1300 calorie a day diet. Doesn't this sound a little low for a 19 stone bloke?

I enjoyed the first one but thought the second one was a bit daft. Their calorie limit is too low for great big blokes like that, they're not eating back their exercise calories, they've cut out drink which is unrealistic in the long term. The three meals are 'less than 1300 calories', but two of them are quite low carb, it doesn't count in any snacks (and we all know that a lot of our problems are caused by relentless snacking), and it included zero drinks in a day -- are we expected to believe they had no drinks at all except water?
And the food comparison at the end was completely silly -- the cassoulet was supposed to be served without rice (or any starch except the beans). And as they said, an amateur rugby player burns 600 calories an hour, and probably does two hours in a match -- enough for the fantastic looking curry and a couple of pints.
My daughter watched the weigh-in and observed that it's just like Weight Watchers or any other of these clubs, with a big measure of public humiliation added in for the gainers. Lovely. It's still a very funny show though.0 -
We always have guests on a Monday evening, and decided to try that cassoulet for them - will let you know how it turns out!0

I liked the first ep and I'll definitely be trying the leaky lasagne at some point, but the second episode didn't live up to the first. Everything was pretty obvious, though maybe its only obvious to me because I'm on MFP all the time and making an effort with my diet/weight loss. But still, I was hoping for a bit more. And BohemianCoast's daughter is right, their weigh ins are just like WW or Slimming World...I was a bit disappointed that not many people lost weight too!0

We had sort-of-the-lasagne last week (except with aubergine instead of leeks, moussaka style) and it was pretty good. I too plan to try the cassoulet, though my version of cassoulet never was very high-fat because I could never afford duck...0

I lost 140 lbs in 7 months with a strict 1200 - 1300 calorie diet and exercise. I got labs drawn every 4 weeks to make sure I wasn't creating deficiencies in anything. It can be done & you can be healthy while doing it. Just be careful and mind that you get proper nutrition. When you're that overweight your body has a lot to work with.0

Yes that is a stupid idea.
Estimated maintenance of around 3700cals. 2500cal deficit/day. Even if they are obese, I'd be thinking that LBM will be lost.

^ That being said, I did lost a lot of LBM as well. My goal was total weight loss though, now I'm in the process of trying to bulk my LBM back up. It's an on-going process0 -

Yep and fat loss is a lot easier than muscle gain so if someone is overweight it's easier to keep what they have rather than lose it and try and rebuild. (That is what I have had to do over the last 4 years)0 -
We tried the cassoulet tonight.
It was very tasty, but quite a complicated recipe and not a quick make (though we did it in the slow cooker, so the prep time was earlier in the day)
The other guests had crusty bread to dip into the sauce, I passed on that. The smoked gammon gave it a lovely flavour, and I would add more dried chilis for a bit more kick.
The leftovers I'm looking forward to for my lunches!0 -
