Scared to suffer an ED

An ED is an eating disorder. I have, recently, begun eating healthier and making my portions smaller. I have made myself realize i want a flat toned stomach. That's the only thing i want, that i know will make me feel better. But since i have made my portions smaller, i have suffered making it to even 800 calories for the day and ill burn up to 600+ calories a day. I'm getting scared because i know it's serious but i don't care enough to change it. I want to be skinny and want the body i want so bad that i'm willing to do anything. Anything suffered, suffering, or at risk of having any kind of ED? Please let me know some ideas to eat healthy, smaller portions, but continue being healthy.

What's currently stopping you from eating more than 800 calories ?
At the rate you're going at right now your body is probably going to be breaking down muscle for energy which is clearly not what muscles are intended for.0 -
Well my goals are simple, to slim down my stomach. I have worked out religiously for almost six years and my stomach hasn't improved, because of my diet. Never took it serious enough to cut out all the jump food.
The only thing stopping me is how i view calories. If it's over 250 i get freaked out and talk myself out of eating. Convincing myself that i am not hungry. Its the mind set i have gotten in the past few weeks. And the fact that i don't really know how to cook very well, any meal that would be healthy.0 -
In your profile you say you want to join the Navy. That's awesome! YOu do know that they will not look to see how flat your stomach is. They will however, assess your over all health. If you truly feel like you're going down the ED path - get some help now. Your dreams of being accepted into the Navy will be gone if you don't do that for yourself. Good luck to you.0

Keep in mind that by simply being female you will always have a degree of a 'tummy'. The models that you see have starved themselves to get rid of it. In my opinion it is not worth it. Love the tummy. Most men think it's adorable anyway.0

I have had an ED since I was 6 and am now working on recovering. I am eating over 2000 calories and at first it was scary as hell, but my tummy is more toned than ever and I am losing weight by eating more. In fact when I drop down to like 1800 calories I start gaining. But you need to get help. Seek a nutritionist and therapist or treatment. This can and will kill you. I am only 19 and have already almost died 3 times because of it, have killed my thyroid, stunted my growth, lost my period, and have GI issues. Trust me, recovering is better than the misery of ED0

Define "worked out religiously". Cardio 3 times a week? Cardio and strength training? Jumping jacks occasionally?0 -
When i say work out religiously, i would sometimes overexercise. I have been in every sport in high school so that was practice and excercising everyday with extra running after every practice, and i'd only take sundays off. Since i've been out of high school , i workout everyday. Cardio every day, weights every other day. I always aim for burning at least 600 calories.0

i don't think this is something that can be accurately answered on a forum. only you know what your mindset is and should be seeking professional medical help if you feel this is becoming unhealthy. From your diet now i'd bet that bootcamp is going to be killer on you. if i was being shipped off to bootcamp in a month i would be focusing on doing a lot of workouts and being as healthy as possible.
i am in recovery for ED and i can honestly say that being driven to 'do anything' to lose weight is certainly mortgaging a happy future to be controlled by a mental illness. get help early if there's a problem.0 -
It sounds like you've already developed an ED. I've struggled with that sort of mindset on and off for the last 10 years or so, when I've seen results from seriously restricting myself they do not last as long as results that come slower from hard work and healthy calorie reduction. If I were you, I would seek out some counseling or support groups; you need to change the way you think about food and your weight.

Even if you're not as far down the rabbit hole with your issues as some of the other people you'll encounter in support, it will really help you address your issues before they get out of control. You can have the body you want without putting your health on the line. It’s awesome you’ve already realized you might have a problem, with that kind of intelligent introspection you will likely be able to figure things out easily with a little direction.0 -
it seems that you already know you have a problem. I suggest going to see a doctor and a nutritionist.0

You are set to ship to training in September. Learn to eat more now because they may attempt to force feed you while you are there. Definitely talk to a doctor.0

I agree with what everybody else is saying. See a nutritionist. Have them help you plan out your diet + exercise. Maybe having the perspective from somebody who is well educated in the area will help assure you that eating more doesn't mean you're going to gain weight/not lose weight like you want.
They'll help you regulate things to how they should be. :drinker:0
