Written Warning at Work

So this is my 5th summer working at a camp, and today i got my first written warning.

I'm always in the group with 4 and 5 year olds, who are pretty hard to take care of. But anyway, long story short, this week I had 10 kids in my group, w/ 2 other counselors. One of the kids in the group has major issues. He obviously has something wrong with him, the parents even warned us; he has meltdowns, hits kids, etc.
Today, as we were leaving pool with the kids, I counted and recounted all the kids before we left, my co counselor did the same. She even saw him in line. We get back to our room, start eating lunch, while one of my co counselors takes the kids that want to change into the bathroom, and 4 mins later, the assistant director walks in with the crazy kid, and says "Missing someone?" I was shocked. I guess I kind of assumed he was in the bathroom.

Apparently he snuck into a different groups line, and followed them. So anyway, we all got a talking to, and a written warning. I'm just wondering what this means exactly? Will it affect me getting jobs in the future, will it be there forever?

I will definitely be more careful now, i'm just nervous about what this means for me. I feel horrible about this! Have you ever gotten a written warning?

More than likely it means nothing for you.

In most jobs, a written warning is a first step. If there is a consistent lack of attention, follow-through, etc. then it gives the employer back-up should they ever need to fire you.

As a one time thing in 5 summers, I'm pretty sure you have nothing to worry about. It will not follow you through each and every job you ever have...just this one!

written warnings basically are used for internal purposes only and are there in case of any legal situation arises regarding you (kids parents sue the camp or you later on for some reason sue for wrongful termination). The written warning most likely will not affect you ever unless somebody REALLY wanna dig deep into your past (are you planning to run for president of US?).

This written warning will never show up to your future employers. By law your former employers cannot tell the other employers about your past performances to anyone else. My former employer used to do this dirty trick where if she fires somebody and they try to use her as a reference, she'd ask the potential employer to ask her if she'll ever hire the person again and then answer her no. She got into trouble for doing this to others.

tl;dr. Don't think too much about the written warning

When you apply for future jobs and they have the job history section.
They may call previous bosses, but a boss can only say good things about you or confirm you worked there.
Legally, they're not allowed to say any disparaging remarks about you.

    just so you know.
