Nutri-System/Jenny Craig question

I was wondering something...I keep seeing all the commercials for Jenny Craig and Nutri-system, where they send you the food all pre-packaged and ready for you. You lose the weight because your food is so regulated, I assume.

But does that really teach you how to eat in real life? I mean, they even send you dessert! What happens when you go out to dinner, or to a party? Can you not eat? It seems like that would be a hard way to go through life. Are you expected to never go off of their eating plan? Will you gain everything back, if you do?

I'm just curious...I'm not looking into trying the programs. Have any of you done those programs?

I have not done either one but a friend of mine has done Jenny Craig. On Jenny I know they try to ease you off of the pre package food when you are half way to your goal weight. But this cost a ton of money (well to me it's a ton) Depends on how much you want to lose. I know me friend paid almost $500 dollars and thats not including food and at the time she had only lost 30 lbs. I think the food is almost a $100 a week. To me it's not worth it and plus you will get bored eating pre packaged food.

    $100 a week?! Dang, that's a lot!

I was just wondering if you actually learn to eat using portion control and the difference between healthy and unhealthy foods.
  • well....i tried it last summer (before I found my lovely MFP) and I spent 300 and gained 5 darn pounds.. what the heck....the food is mostly bland and everything from Nutrisystem has anchovies and fish oil in it....it tastes like it too............

A woman in my office uses this site:

I think you have to physically pick up your meals for the week...not sure though.

Her lunches always look reallyyyyy good!

Agreed - yuck! I tried Nutrisystem for a month after losing 40 pounds the year before and gaining 25 back over the next sevearl months as my desperate attempt to not gain back the rest of the weight I had starved myself to lose. Some food was edible. Most wasn't. I lost weight because of the exercise they recommend with the meal plan. It was so incredibly expensive because not only do you have to buy their food, but you also have to buy all kinds of fresh fruits, veggies, and dairy to go along with it.
I lost 11 pounds in 2 weeks. Threw the rest of that nasty food away, canceled my automatic delivery, and then gained 60 pounds. Now I'm here and I've lost 26 pounds in 2 months a healthy satisfying way I'll be able to continue for the rest of my life. And I didn't pay a dime for anything other than my regular healthy food from the grocery store/garden and for my stationary bike, HRM, dumbells, and running shoes. Funny how that works, eh?
