Holiday clothes for the obese!

Hi guys, yet another holiday dilemma..

I am going to Tunisia next month and it will be very hot. I want to wear shorts but I have a huge bum, wide hips and big thighs (people have asked if I play rugby, they are huge). I would appreciate any advice that anyone has regarding the types of shorts that look good on the larger figure. I'm not a fan of the cullot things, or anything baggy.. unless they are really really nice. I love denim shorts but they never seem to be stretchy.

I am 5'8'' so I can't wear SHORT shorts as these will ride up my *kitten* and no one needs to see that.

I plan on wearing some maxi dresses but the only issue is that my thighs chafe so much in the heat so I think I'd need some days off...hence the need for shorts.

Anymore holiday clothes advice would be muchhhhhh appreciated.

Thanks,
Georgina

First, I am sure you will look fantastic, no matter what you wear.

I always have a hard time packing for vacations as well. My husband and I went to Mexico a few months ago (when I was at my heaviest) and I worried a lot about the chafing. It ended up being okay, though - I wore a lot of sundresses, but applied baby powder to my legs before, during and after walking around and that helped a lot. I think most women have this problem, even girls who are thin!

I don't know whether you have this in the UK, but I also picked up a few pairs of nice shorts from Torrid, which sells chic or trendy (or both) clothes in sizes 14 (US) and up.

Growing up in Louisiana I know what you mean, girl!

If I wear a dress I rub a little bit of baby powder on my inner thighs. This will last most of the day and prevent chafing. You can also get a chafing cream which you can find at sports/running stores but they won't leave your skin feeling silky like baby powder.

You can also try capri's and the shorts that go down your leg a little longer-are they called bermudas? not sure what their name is!

Hi Georgina, we are weight loss twins so far lol ;)
I feel your pain in the heat, I puff up like crazy too so feel huuuge. I too have problems with thighs rubbing and if you're sweatiing it is OUCH! I actually wore some thin white cotton stretch very cropped leggings, like to knee length, i think they were from marks and i wore these under maxi dresses and i wasnt too hot and they reeeeally saved on the chafing. Linen knee length shorts are great too and cooler than cotton. Again from marks. Not the most fashionable I know but you can jazz them up with a nice vest top and accessories and tbh, comfort is more important in the heat right!
Have a lovely time in Tunisia and stay sun safe, that African sun is seriously intense, even if it doesnt feel that hot, the rays are that bit stronger!
    xx
ps i love baby powder! you get travel sized ones from boots/superdrug

Maybe some lightweight capri legging to wear under the dress to prevent chaffing. I really like my Gauchos. I was for sure they would be tacky but I really like the look. They need to make skorts for women! My daughter has a ton of them and they are so awesome.

Have you ever tried chafing cream for your thighs? My best friend used Gold Bond Chafing Defense Anti-Friction Formula on a trip to Disney World and she says it was amazing. That (or something similar - have heard that solid deodorant works, too) could help too, if you prefer to wear skirts over shorts.

This might sound a little weird for the chafing, but I've worn men's 9 inch cotton boxer briefs for undies with dresses. It helps a lot, and they're quite cool.

I agree with the baby powder thing for dresses. You can also use gold bond podwer. FYI gold bond powder is great for a heat rash. Definatly try bremuda shorts. when I was in teh UK I loved Marks and Spencers.. I think that is what is is called. It; slike target in teh US...don't they carry some larger sizes. if you want to shop online try lane Bryant. I love ther shorts.

If you're going to Tunisia I would maybe advise to dress a little more conservatively if you're walking around towns and mixing with locals (obviously wear what you want to in resorts and beaches). Longer shorts and shoulders covered.

    How about something like this:

I have some long shorts and I think they look great with flip-flops but also with heels.

    Hope this helps!

I've done this!! I bought some mens' white boxer briefs and wore them under a white cotton sundress when I went to an amusement park for the day!

I felt silly at first, but they were sooooo comfortable and I had no problems with the heat and chafing and all that.
