Gastric bypass 7 years ago...

I have searched and searched for information about taking NSAIDS after having gastric bypass surgery, and of course all the information I find says do not take NSAIDS after having the surgery... but all those sites are talking about immediately after having the surgery, not 7 years later.
My knees are pretty arthritic, and it would be nice to find something to ease the pain so I can get back to walking without limping.
Anyone know?

How about call your doctor for some more medically reliable information?0

http://www.dsfacts.com/NSAIDs-and-Ulcers-After-RNY.html suggests NSAIDs associated with problems post-bypass (study covers up to 5 years)
http://www.harthosp.org/portals/1/images/32/patient_handbook.pdf says NO. But isn't crystal clear on time, just says NO.

"If gastric bypass patients have a strong need to use NSAIDS, some bariatric surgeons believe it is acceptable to do so for a short period of time provided they also take an acid-reducing medication at the same time. Other surgeons feel strongly that NSAIDS should never be used by gastric bypass patients for any reason."0 -
Take it easier with your exercise, it's probably the racquetball. It's a pretty demanding sport. When you've lost more weight, you'll be able to do it without pain, but this is your signal to stop. It's also very hard to stop playing a game like that too, we tend to play for too long.
NSAIDS and lots of vodka would be a problem.
You'll have to call your doctor on this one, I don't think living in pain is a solution.0 -

The problem I am encountering is that I no longer have a doctor... the one that did the surgery 7 years ago is long gone now... and when I ask other doctors they always take the "safe" route and say "if your bariatric surgeon says it is ok..."
It just seems like the surgery stopped working a long time ago, maybe it was ok to use something to get the inflammation down a little and ease the pain.0 -

Thanks. I am going to take the safe route and just use the acetaminophen. Asking a non bariatric doctor about what I should do is a lot like asking a cow about laying eggs... they just don't know.0
