Workout Failure

So, today I met with my personal trainer for upper body and arms workout. Everything was going great the first half. The second half my arms started to fatigue, quickly. I started doing chest presses with the barbell. I did that ten times, then did some kind of press with a machine, then did elevated push ups. I did great the first time around. I mean, wonderful! But, by the second time around my arms started shaking and I couldn't even push up the barbell! No weights on it, i mea, JUST THE BARBELL, Dear God, my trainer was even helping me do it! By the last time through (3x total of everything) I was doing elevated push ups, and my arms got so fatigue I couldn't push myself up, my forehead was resting on the table, I couldn't get up. I had to completly stand up and re-do it.
I had a crappy day working out today.

At least you did it and kept trying There will be days like that, even with my running, been an avid runner since 2002 ... and somedays I have zero energy for 5 k! and other days I can go until my legs wont let me (an hour or so) ... it happens Just keep going, and make sure your eating enough to give you energy0

Don't beat yourself up over it. The barbell itself normally weighs 45 lbs. That's still a good workout. How much weight do you think you should be bench pressing?0

How long have you been doing this type of workout? If you are new to lifting your muscles will fatigue quickly until you build them up. Plus that is how weight lifting works: you are supposed to lift enough weight with enough reps to fatigue your muscles. If you are new you will look back at this and laugh when you can do it with more weight and complete the whole circuit...several times.:drinker:0

Don't feel bad I murdered myself with a Lower Body Circuit on Tuesday then proceeded to Spin class for Cardio with shaky legs then I had to still do 20 extra minutes of cardio so I got on the treadmill and tried to jog but was too shaky I am almost fell so I had no choice but to walk.
Then on Thursday I kicked my butt in an upper body circuit.
Keep at it and you will gain endurance and strength in your muscles. But then your trainer will just push you further and harder but thats a good thing.
Good luck with everything and have to Ibuprofen ready for day 2 soreness0 -
at least you were there and being productive. fatigue means your muscles were working. I napped through my gym time today. I'm kind of bummed, but the rest was good.0

That's how weight training is sometimes, especially if you're trying to build strength. When I get strong enough to do 10 repititions of an exercise, I add another 5 pounds to the weight. I exercise to complete failure, just about every set. It's how you get stronger.
Great job, you're doing it right.0
