Do you think that's about right for someone who is 5'5 or too little?

That's a BMI of 20.8, which is considered normal or healthy0

I understand that it would be what is considered healthy, however I just see people who weigh that much and I feel like certain people look too small?0
-
I learned the following from a nurse. Made a lot of sense to me.
At 5' - 100 lbs. Add five lbs for every inch taller. So, 5' 5" would be 125 lbs. Just right!0 -
My sister who is 5'5" weighs between 125 and 130 and I think that she looks healthy. For me I would rather weigh in the 130's and I am 5'3.5". But my goal right now is 142 because that puts me on the high side of the "Healthy weight" on the BMI. Once I get there then I'll work towards the 130's.0
-
I think 125 would be a perfect weight for that height.0
-
yah 125 for that height is fine. But there is no law that says you have to be 125 at 5'5...if you would feel/look better at a higher weight, go for that weight then.0
-
Well I'm currently about 180, just trying to figure out what goal I want to set0
-
It's all about your body frame really. Some people look okay at that weight and some don't. I personally think it is too small for me. I don't want to look sickly like these hollywood gals look.0
-
depends on your frame, but no its about right0

Well I weighed 120 all through high school and about 130 through college. I felt the most comfortable about 125. I just don't know if I would still feel comfortable at that size. I think ill just make mini goals and play it by ear0

Set your goal at your highest healthy weight and then make adjustments to your goal weight as necessary. If you are still feeling too big at the highest weight for your height, then by all means keep going.
I'm a very small framed person, and although I am at what is considered in the normal range for my body type, I look and feel terrible. Everyone is different, so just keep trying different things until you feel your best.0 -
I'm 5'4 and 125. Its a healthy weight.0

That's completely nonsensical. I'm 5 feet tall. I would look like one of those starving African children if I weighed 100 lbs.
What is a healthy weight for one person at a given height is not always a healthy weight for another person at the same height, which is why you shouldn't use BMI to figure out whether or not you're at a healthy weight. Your body fat percentage is a much better indication of health. I'm currently at 23% BF, which puts me in the Fitness category, but my BMI is .3 away from being in the Obese category. Big surprise: I have a muscular body.0 -

Wow, didn't realize we are both at about the same size right now.0 -

I was going to say that that info cannot be serious. Frame has a lot to do with it too. There are websites where you can figure that out. No freaking way am I ever going to be 105. (Large frame, right here)0 -

If you aren't sure what your goal weight should be, maybe you could set a non-scale goal. Perhaps a clothing size you want to be able to wear? Or a particular body measurement?I learned the following from a nurse. Made a lot of sense to me.

And please folks, take this guideline with a large grain of salt. This isn't going to apply to everyone and it isn't going to be healthy for everyone. I first heard this when I was about 9 years old, and it was the standard by which I evaluated my appearance for my pre-teen and teen years, not realizing until I was well into adulthood how completely ridiculous it is for me! I'm 5'2" and 125lbs and if I lost another 15lbs, I'd have to start shopping for pants in the girls department! Might be right on for some, but definitely not for me!0 -
It's all about body type. Everyone's bodies are shaped differently, so everyone will have a different anwser...my suggestion..screw what the scale says and get to where you love your body...once that happens..weight yourself and then regardless if it's 125 or 135 you will know where your comfortable and able to maintain.0

How tall are you? You are 5'5'?0

well, i'm 5'6" and currently weigh 128. i've been 117 which i strive for now but i know that is impossible to maintain because i love food too much. i like to hover between 120-123...i feel like this range is realistic for me. but a lot of people tell me i'm already thin at 128 and my dad thought i was anorexic at 117. but the way i see it, if i stay at 128, i'll learn to accept it. then next year, i'll weigh 130, and then 132 and then next thing you know, 140. so i think if i keep striving for 120ish, i won't gain unnecessary weight which is why i'm here. tryin to shake 5-8lbs. not much but as i've said, i love food too much so i need support to keep me focused!!0

I'm 5'6" and I weigh 165. I'd like to lose 20 lbs but for my body its really not the end of the world to weigh that much. 5 years ago I weighed 145 and I looked just as chubby and wore nearly the same sizes as I do now, because I had NO muscle.
Weight is not a super meaningful number to compare people, even the SAME people. Its a nice general guideline, because there are numbers at which you are just plain overweight or underweight, but in terms of healthy, fit, or attractive weights people are different and body composition matters a lot.0 -

I completely agree. there are so many factors that come into play here. however I'm the kind of person that needs hard facts so I need to know my weight and to have a goal weight as a guideline. now to play both sides of the fence, if my clothes started fitting looser but I remained at 128...well, heck! I'd take that too! but my goals evolve too so who knows what I'll be striving for in a few weeks. I guess I'm just keeping my goal weight in the back of my mind for the big picture and for the day to day, I'd just like to hit my calories, do my workout and go to bed knowing that I gave it my best for the day.0 -
depends on ur frame and how u hold ur weight, some people it works for, others it doesnt0
