Anxiety about reaching your goal?

This has been a trying week for me. It started out with me being pretty panic-y Sunday night/Monday morning, but not going into full on anxiety attack mode. I couldn't figure out why. It continued throughout the week all the way up into today. Then I finally figured it out: I have a deep fear of losing motivation and failing at this goal I've set for myself.
What's this goal, you ask? I'd like to run a 5K by the middle of October. My college is putting on a 5K on Oct. 20, which is about 2 weeks after my birthday. I've wanted to run a 5K for almost a year now, but I've never committed myself. About a month ago, I finally made the decision to go for it, downloaded the app, and started running 3 times a week. I've kept up with it, alternating with the elliptical every other day. But the fear persists.
Has anyone ever had to deal with something like this before?

Losing motivation is always a concern. I have been on my journey since November, and every day is a new day for me to decide to stick with it or not to stick with it. There have been days when I slipped a bit, but I wake up the next day and have to make a decision again. I know it's hard, but you really can't worry about tomorrow. Today is the only day that matters, so do your best today, and wake up tomorrow and make a decision for then. Good luck--you CAN do it! BTW, I love weather, too! :-)0

I have the same problem...the ironic part is that when I exercise, I find that my anxiety and panic attacks in general are somewhat lessened. So when I start to fall off the wagon and get anxious about it, that continues to feed on itself until I can break out of the mental rut. What helps me is to take one day at a time. JUST today. If I think farther ahead than that, that's when I'm prone to freak out.
A 5K is an eventual goal for me as well. Just keep doing what you're doing, and try to focus as much as you can on doing your best right now, today, and if you continue to do that, you're bound to succeed0 -
Just like Cocochick said, Treat everyday as a new day. Use the "bad" day as motivation for the next. Working out and maintaining goals is mentally challenging. But with every new day comes new attitudes, new challenges, and new motivation. Keep striving and you'll get to the place you want to be!!!!0
