Frustrated by the Scale

I started using MFPAL (again) three weeks ago. One of those weeks I went to the beach, so I didn't exactly count my calories. But I'm beginning to get so frustrated! I've gained like four pounds in the past three weeks. It's just annoying! I've been counting calories and exercising the past three weeks (minus the one vacation one) and I just don't get it. I was actually staying at the same weight when I wasn't counting calories and exercising. :ohwell:
I took measurements today so I can start basing off of those.. but does anyone have any recommendations? I'm just getting so fed up. Usually the scale isn't this bad for me when I first start dieting.

  • My humble opinion.. FORGET THE SCALE. At least for a while (Month or 2) and get back to a time when you had fun working out. The results will come. They never do as fast as we want, but those that stick with it and endure through the *kitten* times will receive big dividends. I've seen it happen a thousand times and we all go through it, that's when ya buckle down and work even harder than you ever have before!

So that actually equates to 2 weeks counting calories...not enough time to see results. You need to consistently log everything for at least 4 weeks and stay within your calorie goal. Patience!!!

As long as you don't plan on going on vacation once a month, I'd say just give it time.

I had a similar experience, I found that drinking at least a glass of water every hour has really really helped with my weight loss as well as trying to cut back on the sugar intake. I try and work out in the mornings before i eat anything and then have a protein shake when i am done. Just these changes really helped me, hope this helped a little.

Omg. I was so there literally just a couple of days ago. I was on the edge thinking forget this. I felt like I could see and feel the difference but that pesky scale just said nope you're still the same. Then I had an epiphany. I was losing inches not lbs, which in a lot f research is GREAT, because it means you are losing fat. Granted there will be sometimes you aren't losing inches or lbs but as long as you are doing the right things, eating right, drinking water and excercising you will see your results. It's so very hard to be patient once you've made a decision to lose because you need that motivation to remind you it working and/or worth it. I would say if you want to push yourself a little more to get those results maybe coming up with a goal each week of 2lbs or 1-2 inches to help you work to get those types of results. Good luck and stay positive!!! You are making the right decison and you will SEE results!!! We promise!! :)
  • Girl, I feel your pain! I started getting back to a regular workout routine about 3 weeks ago and have made minor modifications to my diet without any weight loss and actually gained 2 lbs from where I started! Right now, I'm chalking it up to nursing and my body is just hanging onto extra calories, rather than expelling them like some suggest in breast feeding!

Anyway, you've received good advice from others on not getting too hung up on the scale. Try to examine how you feel...Do you have more energy? a clearer mind? These are the things that are keeping me motivated right now while I wait for the results of having the weight decrease and fat melt away!

Be kind to yourself and know that the best solution is shooting for a lifestyle shift, rather than a quick fix.
