What is more accurate? My machine or MyFitnessPal?

I have an elliptical and I was on it for 30 minutes tonight. My machine said that I burned 233 calories, but MFP says I burnt(ed?) about 400 calories. What is more accurate?

probably the machine if u put in your weight and age and checked ur heart rate a time or two. MFP is just an estimate/average. It has no idea about your speed, resistance, etc., the machine does. I strongly suggest investing in a low cost HRM. Best investment ever for true calorie counts.
  • This is a pretty cheap machine. It doesn't ask you any of these. It only takes your heart rate and does your RPMs. And gives you options for resistance and workouts.

NOT myfitnesspal! Get a calorie tracker for other workouts like yoga, dancing etc. And your elliptical is correct. :)

In this case, your machine. I find cardio burns 8-10 calories per minute. 400 is too much.

    This helps! Thanks!

Idk Most elliptical machines dont make it so ur weight. Its like saying 120lb person burns the same as a 200lb person going at the same speed and resistance

I would normally say machine, but if yours s like mine, then no. My elliptical is completely stupid about calories burned. I was on it for 25 minutes last night doing some intervals -- all out as hard as I could for at least 5 full minutes, moderate for about 10, and the other 10 were warm-up/cool down/low impact. It said I burned 69 calories. Uh, no.

I use the elliptical at the gym. I enter my weight and it measures my heart rate continuously. It shows a lot less than my MFP too. I go with the elliptical reading.

I think 200 calories in half an hour is more accurate. That's how much I burn in 30 minutes running.
