Protein vs carb intake

I have been dieting with myfitnesspal on my iPhone for the past three weeks. I go to personal training 2 times a week as well as walking 4 miles 3-4 times a week. I have been experimenting with how to balance my diet, according to the guidelines that the information I entered has set for me, and so far have been successful with everything but the percentage of carbs to protein. I consume much more protein than carbs and remain within if not under my target amount of fat on a consistent basis. I am a stay at home mom with a current weight of 200lbs. I have lost 13lbs so far, over that past 5 weeks. My target weight is 160 (Pre pregnancy weight). How detrimental is this to my dieting plan? I have always heard that carbs are bad, but will eating more protein than carbs negatively affect my progress?

    No, you're good! Keep on eating the protein, and congrats on your success!

    You can change the macro percentages to whatever works for you. High protein works very well for many people.

    Try to get 1g of protein per lb of lean body mass. I weight 169 and my lean mass is about 117. So, I want a minimum of 117 grams of protein a day. Forget about MFP settings.. you can go in and change them, btw. I would suggest either setting them to a 40%carbs/30% pro/30% fat ratio... or another school of thought.. keep your protein at your lean mass like I said above, your carbs under 100 and cut all grains, starches, rice, and corn products, and filling the rest in with healthy fats like almonds, olive oils, avocado, etc.

    In my opinion, MFP sets protein too low and carbs too high. I net fewer than 75 carbs per day and more than 100 grams of protein per day and it has been good to me.
