Hello everyone! I'm happy to say I just completed my first 5k this morning, it is called the Gopher to Badger 5k. I did it in 32:00 minutes. I feel pretty awesome about that time because it was my first 5k, and although I have been exercising for about 9 months I only just got into running for distance in June. I'm already looking forward to my next 5k, and I may do 2 more before the end of the year.
So, my first 5k time was 32:00 minutes. What was yours?

Great job!! I haven't done my first yet - shooting for the Cheese Days Chase in September.
I'll be a lot slower than you were, but it will be a start.0 -
I just did my first real race today, and I managed it in 28:11.
I really wanted to hit the 30 minute and under mark, so I'm happy I achieved that goal! I'd love to be running a 5k at closer to twenty minutes come next year though.0 -
I just finished my first one today! My time was no where near as good as all of yours though. I finished in 47:42. But hey, considering I only just finished week 6 of c25k and pulled something in my back, I'll take it! lol0

Awesome everyone! I think it doesn't matter what others get, as long as you feel good about your time. I'm going to start running more miles per week or just more miles at a time (more than 3) so then a 5k will feel easier.0

Exactly. I was one of the last runners to cross the finish line, but everyone was still cheering and excited for me. And I still ran it faster than my fiance who didn't run it at all! lol0

Congratulations on the awesome time!
My first 5k time was 28 years ago, when I was in the Army, 21:30 minutes.
I miss those days!0 -

That mentality is exactly how I coaxed my husband to run with me! Haha!0 -
My first 5K was done in June of this year. I was around 100lbs over weight when I did it. I walked/jogged it instead of running.
My time was 53 min
The second 5k that I did was last month and I dropped the time to 48 min )

My first 5K was 34:07 - it was on grass and had some hills. 2 weeks later, my second was 30:45 - flat, on asphalt.
Edited to say: Congrats on your first 5K!!!!!!0 -
The first one I ever did was 49 minutes and change with mostly walking and a little running.
The first one I did where I ran the entire distance was 34:18.0 -
Congratulations! I did my first 5k last December in 31:00. I was part of a C25K-like group. I couldn't run a mile when I started! Did my 2nd 5k in 26:08 back in May. It's amazing how much easier it becomes when you keep up with it! Keep going!!!0

I didn't start running til I was 48 yrs old; 2 years ago. My first 5k was around the 34 minute mark. Second 5k was 32 minutes and third 5k was 31 mintues. I am attempting the Disney 1/2 Marathon in Sept for my 50th B Day. Really planning on run/walk. Have to keep under the 16 minute mile mark or they pick you up & drive you to the finish line. :ohwell:0

Congratulations, and GREAT job!
Today was MY first race, too! It was a 4.8 mile run, and I did it in 47:51 -- which was much faster than I expected, and faster than any training run of a similar distance. It was sooooo muuuuch funnnnn!!0 -
I did my first 5k today!! It was Color Me Rad. I finished in 23 mins. My fastest time ever. I think running in a pack motivates you to keep up with everyone! I didn't stop bc I didn't want to be left behind!!0

Good job Rob!
My 5K times are in my profile. First one was a walk/run and was 46 minutes. The first one I ran entirely was around 41 minutes. My latest one was about 38.5 minutes so I'm getting faster!0 -
My first was at the end of June, and I clocked in at 31:03. I was quite proud, since it was a VERY hilly course and I ran all but about two minutes of it.0

32' is a great time for a first 5k - enjoy your next one! :-)0

My first 5k was last year, I think I finished at 36 min. I walked quite a bit of it. Right now I'm doing c25k, I'm on week 5! I can't wait to see what time I get when I'm done!0

I ran my fist ever 5k in 2006 at 30years old and 12and a half stone (175lbs) in 35mins. It was a pretty mad mixture of grass, trail and tarmac, a Race for Life around Broughton Hall in Skipton.
I started running again last February at 15stone+ (I stopped counting, but somewhere above 210lbs) and when I got up to a 5k route around my nearby streets (a couple of mean hills), I was doing it in 37mins to begin with.
On Wednesday I got it down to 30.30, and I'm 11stone 10 (164lbs). Can't wait to get it under 30mins. I did the Race or Life around Temple Newsam in Leeds in July this year, hilly, muddy, grassy and hot, and came in at 29.36, so I know I can do it!0 -
My first was close to 40 min, a year later the same race was 26:46 (my best "official" time for a 5K)0
-
I just started running this year. My first 5k time was 39.17...faster than my workout speeds...walked portions...was in C25k W7 at the time...Plan to run the entire course next race in a few weeks...0
-
My first 5k was 26:46 and that was after 3 months of running and a couple hills.
The distance is hard...most people don't push themselves nearly as hard as they could. If you're not on the edge of puking or passing out at the finish line, you could have gone faster. :drinker:0 -
Ive never run a 5 k. I used to do 10 K in 36 to 37 min depending on if flat or gentle hills, too hot or whatever, but then i was 37yo and 180 lb .... I always HATED the last 2 miles. I think that was telling me something.
Once i get down to 180 or so Id like to try the 5K. I
Ive got a ways to go as Im 205 lbs and 25 years out of shape/conditioning.Oh and then Im 63. Ill carry an AED(cpr device) with me incase I need someone to zap me.
Ya know thats a great requirement to enter races. That they know cpr minimum.0 -

I definitely pushed myself to my limit, my first mile was my fastest ever (7 minutes). Then I had to lower the pace because I was getting tired, by the end I really felt like I was gonna be sick. After some water I felt a lot better though. I'm gonna keep pushing and getting better!0 -
I have only done one straight running race but I was pleased to meet my goal of a sub 30 minute 5 K at 27:50.0
-
well done! .. that's an impressive time for a first run. My first ever was 31:54 .. and I ran one today in 22:10, very gratifying.0

I'm sure you'll find that your time improves as you get more mileage under your belt, which is part of the fun of racing.
I started just over a year ago. My first 5K time was 31:30.0
