Ankle trouble

I somehow hurt my right ankle... the pain is about 2 inches above my ankle and goes in a straight line to my ankle. It happened 3 weeks ago. I started running this spring. I ran 2 miles- the best yet- nothing happened that I remember on my run that day. BUT either that evening or the next day my ankle hurt like a mother! It got worse for awhile. I wore an ankle brace and took tylenol. Never went to the dr.... figured if I did sprain it all they would say was to wear a brace and take tylenol which I was/am doing.
I continued to go to my spin classes... couldn't miss them! My ankle did fine... wore my brace. I haven'r really taken it easy. I have not run at all. I have done a dvd a couple of times but focused more on my upper half. Over the last week I can tell that it is getting better. But there is still pain. It will feel pretty good and I will run morning errands w/out my brace and then I will need my brace for the afternoon.
My question.. what the hell did I do to my ankle?? Any clue how long it will take to heal??

Please at least go to a doctor to get it checked. It might be tendinitis, or damaged ligament, I don't know. But I do have experience of a broken ankle, and being housebound for however long, and I do believe that you're better off finding out what's wrong, so you don't aggravate something!0

I did something similar a few weeks back...turns out I strained the front ligament. I couldn't rotate it in a circle and it hurt to walk on it. My doc said to follow the RICE plan...Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation. Took about a week and half to completely heal.
Hope you heal up quickly!0 -
We are tennis and soccer players so we know a lot about getting hurt in ankles, knees, shoulders... We always RICE our injuries - Rest, ICE, Compress and Elevate. I also take VERY small doses of advil to help with swelling. I tweaked my knee a few weeks ago - so these days, I'm not jumping up and down, I ice it 1 or 2x per day (especially at night after I've been on it all day) and I wear a brace a lot. It's feeling better, but I'm going to continue what I've been donig.
Listen to your body - if it's in pain, RICE it! And if it keeps hurting, go see a doctor for sure! Good luck!!!!!0 -

This, It sounds like a sprain.
I did the same a few months back, it still isnt perfect, but was a really bad pull in the ligaments which go all the way down the side of your ankle. My doc also told me to exercise it, its good that you havent taken it TOO easy, as this can cause more problems long term.0
