How to bulk successfully

Hey, im 18, around 160 pounds, and 6 foot tall. How do I start to bulk up with muscle, and avoid fat gain? I know that I need to be lifting, and eating more, but how much lifting and how much eating and what to eat? This is the first time iv ever been too skinny so and I want to gain a little weight the right way, (with muscle) just not sure where to go. Any help?

    I dont know how to do it but my boyfriend is your height and weighed what you do when I met him. Since then hes put on 10 lbs along with 1-2% body fat and he looks great. He's at 14-15% now I think...

    edit: just wanted to add my boyfriend said he used a calculator from bodybuilding.com that tells you how many calories to eat- I think his was close to 3500 and he eats a lot of protein. As much as he can stomach at every meal +protein shakes after work outs.
