washing workout clothes in Oxy Clean

Does anyone else wash their workout clothes in oxyclean or peroxide? I rinse them after I work out, and only wear them once, but then once a week I wash all of them in oxyclean.
It really helps with the left over odors.
Anyone have another solution?

I just wash them in my normal laundry detergent (The Honest Company). I never have lingering odors. They do have an oxy booster that I just got, but that's mainly for tough baby stains (poop, food, etc.).1

I add oxiclean in the washer, but I also use detergent. I don't seem to have any issues with lingering odors.0

I literally take my gym wear off as soon as i walk in the door and hoy them in the washer. The sweat has no smell until it drys or is left for a few hours so as long as its wet when u wash it it shouldn't smell. But for stinky trainers there is a stain devil lemon stain remover spray that's a miracle in a can. It gets rid of any pong no matter how pungent.1

So I rinse them. :-(1 -
I seem to recall someone in an older thread on this topic mentioned soaking workout clothes in a vinegar solution to get rid of the stink. I've never tried it so I can't vouch for it.
We use oxy clean on our while loads and I'm not convinced it makes any noticeable difference.1 -
Let them air out by a window or outside and mabe spray with Fabreze1

A triathlon friend swears by hydrogen peroxide soaks, but that gets a bit expensive. I'll stick with the oxyclean for while.1 -
I wash mine after every workout. I figure that's what the small load option is for on my washer! I always air-dry them, so I don't worry about wasting energy there. I really like wearing fresh smelling workout clothes. It's a reward for my hard work in the gym.1

I don't have this issue with my workout clothes but I hve used baking soda to get rid of other foul odors1

Tide Sport defunks my clothes. Even if my very naughty cat pees on something.1

I would try the vinegar in your daily rinse. Its an acid and acids will kill bacteria and bacteria is what causes the odors! Sounds like its worthwhile trying! LOL... keep us posted!1 -

I use Borax in my laundry to take care of odors....seems to work fine.0

I would think soaking in borax water or baking soda water would help. I've used both in the diaper pail and it helps.1

I usually wash in regular laundry with good ole gain. (since i'm allergic to most other brands). But I also find soaking them in regular Dawn dish detergent works wonders as well.1

We use Era or Arm and Hammer both have Oxy Clean added to them.0

Yes.... but I use oxyclean on every load of laundry I do cuz it's awesome stuffs!0

Nothing a little baking soda in the wash and vinegar in the rinse cycle can't fix!1

i always use a detergent with oxy clean in it; however, I was talking to a friend of mine and mentioning that my work out clothes still have a funk to them. She told me to use good old fashion ammonia. You load your washer add 1 cup of ammonia (no detergent), let it run a cycle, then was the clothes as you normally would. It works great! I do it once a week for my work out clothes and my husband's work clothes. (yea, it's using more water, but I don't smell funky anymore) :bigsmile:1

Thanks for this thread. Have noticed the problem lately and been frustrated with how to get rid of it. Going to try these solutions and see which one works. Thanks ladies.0

I add Oxy Clean to every load, I love this stuff. But here's a tip i got from a friend of mine that owns a dry cleaning business...when it comes to my daughter's softball uniforms i was told to fill the kitchen sink w/the hottest water from the tap, then add 1 scoop of oxy clean & 1 cup of Awesome cleaner (a general cleaning agent from the Dollar Store) soak the uniform till the water has cooled. wring out the uniform & wash in the washer. I have no problems with stains or smells... good luck0

Not lucky. Natural cleaning products work better than chemical products.0 -
One thing Ive done lately is making my own fabric softener. I used to wash in tide stain release for everything but now just this softener does it. Its 6cups hot water, 3 cups white vinegar and 2 cups hair conditioner (I use suave since I can get it cheap with sales/coupons) I think the vinegar is what helps but everything comes out amazing!0

Still after all these years have not tired Oxyclean I always thought it was too harsh for tops like these. Maybe I should try it. I hand wash all of my exercise tops in cold water in the kitchen sink with detergents made by Tyler candle company called Glam Wash it's a lingerie detergent it is the best stuff ever for sweaty tops and is a very lightweight formula and you do not need to use a whole lot of it. It smells incredible. Makes your entire house smell good like an air freshener too. They come in several scents.0
